I would like to answer any of your questions, if any .Please respond to this thread.
Hi Edgar,
Welcome and thank you for your offer.
I do have a question.
Everest produces a number of full synthetic oils that are SN and GF-5, these being 0W20, 0W30, 5W20, 5W30, 10W30.
According to your spec data sheets, they all have a TBN of 7.9 and Phosphorus of 0.08 wt%.
Has this group of oils been developed as part of a "development matrix" so they all have the same DI (Detergent Inhibitor) package ?
This is a term I learnt from an oil formulator here, which means they develop one DI package that is suitable for use in all the oils (for efficiency and simplicity of production). This is separate from the VM (viscosity modifier) package which would change for each viscosity grade.
I assume they all use the same quality base oils?
Yes the the actual mix of light to heavy base stock would change depending on the final viscosity required, but do they all use the same Group base stock from the same supplier? (No need to name who, just the general concept).
The point I am interested in is, the 5W30 is Dexos1-Gen2 approved, but the 10W30 is not. Now I know dexos does not allow 10W30 as a grade, and that dexos requires certain low temperature ability. But if we exclude low temperature performance and forbidden viscosity grades, would you expect the non-dexos 10W30 when used in a warm environment to perform similarly to the dexos 5W30 in a regular engine?
I'm asking just out of curiosity. My belief is with companies using a matrix development approach, we actually have warm climate Dexos1 10W30 oils available to us in quality, but not in name / licence / label.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
