Hey everyone so almost a year ago I purchased a Serta memory foam mattress. I'll be honest I have never woke up sore or fatigued. However one major complaint I had was it makes me extremely hot at night. To the point I wake up burning up. I originally thought it was something with me and didn't realize the bed could be at fault. So I'm not looking into it her options probably not right away given my current medical situations . But once I am stable again i would like to purchase a new mattress. Has anyone had any experience with ghost bed ? The price isn't bad but not trying it in the store is weird to me. I just want a good comfortable bed that I don't sweat to death on. So any real world experience on them or maybe a similar online brand would be awesome. Thanks everyone.

No personal experience with them but all I hear about with commercials and see great reviews for is the Tuft & Needle mattresses. A coworker of mine has one and loves it, it'll probably be my next bed.

It looks like another version of "Tuft & Needle" or "Casper".

I have a brandless memory foam mattress that I bought off of Woot.com a few years back.. probably made in the same factory as all the other ones.. and it has held up fine.

If you get hot at night or just have a naturally warmer "core temp" then you should probably avoid foam mattresses, period. I think there have been advances in spring technology mattresses that make them as supportive as foam, and you'd get the benefit of airflow.

I'd thought about getting a Tempur Pedic mattress and I heard the very same thing, that they're really hot to sleep on. I guess the memory foam doesn't "breathe"?

Everyone is different. What works for me won't necessarily work for anyone else due to differences in personal preference, body shape/size, and how you sleep.

I suggest you join mattress underground forum for a little research. Basically you need to actually lay on the mattress to know what's up. Most Mattress stores are a huge scam too, all the big box brands are over priced with inferior materials usually. I ended up using Denver mattress which has better prices for the materials used but only on their house brands as they sell more than their own line there.

Foam density is a huge concern if you are above average weight and want the mattress to last more than a few years. This is where all the big names screw you. Sealy, Serta, Simmons, all the ones that start with S... SCREW YA, lol.

My wife and I bought a Sealy Optimum memory foam last year and it's been the best investment we've made. Wasn't cheap, but I figured I spend more time there than I do on any other piece of furniture. It supposedly is made from "cooling gel" foam. I'm a hot sleeper too, and I've not had any problems with this mattress. I'm not trying to sound like an ad for Sealy but, I sure am happy with this one. I'm 190 and wife is 130 so I don't know how this mattress would be for a heavier person.

Get a bed with natural ( cotton, wool) padding over linked coils. Good luck finding one.
Modern matresses are terrible. Too much garbage foam on top of the coils.
This construction does not work from My engineering perspective. It just cheap.

Also in a mattress store rememeber the long running scam: 50% off is the FULL price. So discount from there. No matresses are sold at list price. If you have a good box spring keep it. I junked a $$$ low profile box spring from my previous matress (made with oak frame and bolted on leaf springs) due o the salesman saying that the mattress guarantee would not be valid without a new box spring. The Simmons mid level box spring is a piece of featherweight junk.

I really like the idea of natural cotton and wool. Who makes these and where can they be bought? ANYTHING polyester is just plain disgusting.

Have a Tempurpedic brand got in 2008 or 9. It's one click up from the base model. Yes, it can get hot, have found you really have to play games with the right amount of blanket on the bed. When it gets hot it also goes softer in the hot spots which screws up comfort. There are a few mail order types that you can test for 100 days in-home and they'll refund and pickup free of freight charges if you don't like it after the trial period. Lull is one, forgot the name of the other.

One less publicized advantage of memory foam or std foam mattresses is bed bugs can't live in them. Not that anyone ever has bugs but in case you travel a lot and unknowingly tote some home, nice to know they can't set up housekeeping in your bed.

Any memory foam bed of almost any firmness that I've been involved with doesn't seem to be as conducive to side sleeping as a good quality firm / extra firm regular mattress. Pillow top or Euro top mattresses are eliminated immediately for me. I start from there and work outward so I would think the heat/cool aspect might be more bothersome depending on your sleep style / contact patch and the particular material. That might be difficult to assess without having a 60-day trial period or similar.
