Laugh all you want. But take a look at a data sheet.
Chevron High Mileage 10W30 @40C is 83.1 cSt. Regular Chevron 10W30 is 73.5, which I believe is close to 10.
At 100C it's indeed 12 vs. 10.8. I should have been clear which temp I was referring to.
The extra cleaning agents are probably just increased levels of detergent additives, such as Ca and Mg, etc.
BTW what are you doing with a "nasty mess" in your engine anyway?
