Walmart is finally stocking both options but the ESP 5W30 is priced significantly higher. Does anyone have theories as to why?

From what I've read on the ROC, there is something very unique about the 5w30 ESP SP version. As we've seen, it has no moly, no ester and much less boron. The guys on the ROC seem to suggest it's using some new Infineum system. To add further confusion, we know Triple Action was born from using additives outside the norm from the cosmetic industry.

There is also potentially mPAO in the latest 5w30 SP formulatin and they also could be using diblock VM. That could add to the price.

Well, XOM chemical sells to that industry - So …

Interesting. So, the better deal is still at Oreilly on the 5W variant since you get it for the same price plus a $10 gift card when the promo is on.

Seems to be just a sales price. the $27.99 price point is regular Mobil 1 on sale.

I paid $36.99 at autozone online a couple of months ago.

Have seen that at Walmart as well for certain Mobil 1 oils as well.

5w will have a bit lower Noack and be a little more shear stable, that's what edyvw said in the past.
If not running extended OCIs then 0w is fine, with extended OCIs 5w price diff doesn't matter that much when you think in $ per 1k miles math.
Pretty much, except both will do good with extended oci. Depends on vehicle though.

The big reason is that the 5w30 is only being stocked online and not In store from that screenshot. So it’s higher to reflect the shipping costs on their end. You’ll get free shipping because it’s over $35

0w30 looks like the buy. Cheaper, too much phosphorous for API SP, some ester. 5w30 could be mystery tech or just $7 extra for nothing.
The WM online price for M1 5W30 ESP is similar to Advance Auto , Auto Zone , etc. at $35 while the everyday WM price for M1 5W30 is $27. While there could be something special about the M1 5W30 SP , I’m not sure if it is better than the M1 0W30 ESP for almost $10 less per jug ?
