Walmart is finally stocking both options but the ESP 5W30 is priced significantly higher. Does anyone have theories as to why?
Well, XOM chemical sells to that industry - So …From what I've read on the ROC, there is something very unique about the 5w30 ESP SP version. As we've seen, it has no moly, no ester and much less boron. The guys on the ROC seem to suggest it's using some new Infineum system. To add further confusion, we know Triple Action was born from using additives outside the norm from the cosmetic industry.
There is also potentially mPAO in the latest 5w30 SP formulatin and they also could be using diblock VM. That could add to the price.
There have been several VOA's now per the Russian Oil club which all show the same numbers. There was also one UOA on that site where the oil was used for 9,600 miles and the results were very good.

This oil meets the Porsche C30 spec, which you can see exceeds API SP and dexos 1 Gen 3.

Perhaps it's a reflection of inventory levels?Walmart is finally stocking both options but the ESP 5W30 is priced significantly higher. Does anyone have theories as to why?

Pretty much, except both will do good with extended oci. Depends on vehicle though.5w will have a bit lower Noack and be a little more shear stable, that's what edyvw said in the past.
If not running extended OCIs then 0w is fine, with extended OCIs 5w price diff doesn't matter that much when you think in $ per 1k miles math.
Hopefully, they will bring it to the shelves.
I could seriously care less. I would rather have my Mobil 1 sent to me from a distribution center than a store shelf.Hopefully, they will bring it to the shelves.
Most things I agree, but sometimes it’s nice to just grab the jug locally and not deal with more cardboard boxes.I could seriously care less. I would rather have my Mobil 1 sent to me from a distribution center than a store shelf.
Yeah, but I like just to pick it up on the go.I could seriously care less. I would rather have my Mobil 1 sent to me from a distribution center than a store shelf
The WM online price for M1 5W30 ESP is similar to Advance Auto , Auto Zone , etc. at $35 while the everyday WM price for M1 5W30 is $27. While there could be something special about the M1 5W30 SP , I’m not sure if it is better than the M1 0W30 ESP for almost $10 less per jug ?0w30 looks like the buy. Cheaper, too much phosphorous for API SP, some ester. 5w30 could be mystery tech or just $7 extra for nothing.
