EPA possibly goes after the Start/Stop System!

Our 2016 Pilot has failed to restart at intersections twice in the last week. This requires the driver to put the car into "Park" and push the "Start" button.

Not an uncommon complaint among owners. I just ordered a device that will turn off auto start/stop every time automatically.

I have never understood the hate for start/stop.

I didn't either, until my wifes battery went back (But, still started the car normally) and then it turned off at a light, then got angry and told her to turn the car off, go to park, start, back to drive, to drive away

Turned it of permanently after that, it was a Ford Escape

Start stop is annoying AF… but that’s not the worst failure mode. You might get a few honks in the 10 seconds it takes to do that but it’s not really dangerous.

1. That is a TSB with warranty extension, not a recall.

2. That is a failure of the keyless stop/start switch, not a failure of the auto stop/start system.

There is in fact a TSB that addresses the problem that I'm seeing: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10229675-0001.pdf But I believe this TSB was already done by the previous owner (my mom).

And there is another TSB that also related to this problem: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10229676-0001.pdf And I believe it comes with a warranty extension. So I might try that, could at least get a valve adjustment at Honda's expense.

I need to look at the service records for my Pilot, but I think Honda's "My Garage" is not working right at the moment.

We could be here all day talking about associated things that don't make sense. Like 40ft long RVs and 4K Lb. cars to haul one 200 Lb. occupant or saving the environment one 2.5 gallon plastic container of DEF at a time.
Yeah, I think about these things whilst sipping coffee and staring at the massive cruise ships that tied up at night …
