Engine vibration after rebuild

I would replace all the mounts if you have not done so.
They have all been replaced over the past few months. The vibration is much less than before, but worse with the AC on. The AC compressor is also new. I hope the mounts aren't loose or crooked. There are only two that support the weight of the engine, one transmission mount, and one on the bottom front of the engine.

*update* I took it somewhere else and, they too said all the other mounts are good. He suggested trying an aftermarket mount, which sounds backwards from everything I've learned. He told me he wouldn't charge me if it didn't work. He also said it's rare, but possible I got a bad batch of mounts (even less likely since I got them both from two different dealerships). This doesn't really sit right with me, but is it worth a try? If it doesn't work, I'd only have to pay $60 for the inspection and the mount/installation price is fair as well.

*Update* Having all the mounts replaced, mechanic told me the engine is misaligned by 2 degrees and it's stressing the top torque mount and causing it to fail almost immediately. I can't afford to have the engine re-aligned. What do you all make of this?

How exactly does he propose to “realign” it?
I also wonder how he determined and measured that it was 2 degrees off.

I've owned a service manual for every car I've driven and owned since my 1974 Buick Regal and never in any of them have I seen a procedure to measure nor correct engine alignment.

OP, since you said you can't afford it, how much was this mechanic going to charge you to have it realigned?

Was the car involved in a front end collision?

He used a "scope?" That's all I know. He didn't give me a quote, but he said $7-800 off the top of his head.

I've had a lot of people ask/mention that. It has not b to my knowledge. I've never wrecked it and there are no accident reports for my vin. Could still have been wrecked, though. The plastic bottom bumper grill was broken when I bought it, but it's flimsy and I even dislocated it in a steep driveway once. So, I doubt it, but I'm not sure. It was rebuilt, so the engine was removed and replaced before.

I would look for telltale signs of a accident.

Another thing, the top torque mount is obviously crooked since he replaced it. However, when I replaced it, I was able to get it less crooked-almost true.

I remember your brother in law doing some free, major work on it and something was messed up after. You complained to sister and he was mad about that. Is he the person that replaced the engine?

Yes, he replaced the pistons, which involved removing/replacing the engine. The only problem was vibration I thought due to all of the mounts being shot.

Interesting, how do you adjust it? On the ones I've worked on the alignment is fixed as long as the bolts line up. I mean you can twist the rubber mount if the alignment is off but that will only lead to early failure.

There is a small amount of play in the holes and I focused on getting the mount squared up first. One of the bolts had some overhang if that makes sense, but they didn't rub nor did I have to force anything.
