Was out checking my lawn sprinklers last night and came across a toad. Now there are plenty of critters around here but this is actually the first time I have come across a toad in my yard. Old lady came out and snapped a couple pics. Daughter came out later and the toad was gone. So I look at the pics the wife took and got online to get some education. If I am seeing correctly, this may be a near extinct Wyoming toad. Like the California Condors a breeding program was established and some population was re-introduced. I feel privileged to have come across this guy, if it is indeed a Wyoming Toad.

Here the red-legged frogs are protected - from humans. As soon as you go near a habitat, a wildlife SWAT team will descend on you. I saw a ranger standing next to a red-legged frog pond and watch a heron have a feast of tadpoles. Both were crying - the heron of joy and the ranger out of frustration.

From my googling it looks like a match.

Coming from GA its hard to imagine not having toads in the yard.. My son (5) has a pretty much weekly toad roundup around our place and picks up 10-20 toads/frogs in a bucket carries them around for a bit then releases them back into the wild. haha

See hundreds up here in the mountains of central PA. Trevor finds them in brothers firewood piles daily. He doesn’t bother them, just barks
