Oil held up well for our bargain basement 5/30. The owner is a friend of mine since middle school and is notoriously bad with her OCIs. She gets a 4000 mile sticker when she comes in, and yet shes always at least 1500 miles over. Oil looks useable, but really not much of an add pack.

Ummm, where are the detergents at and anti wear agents? Calcium is super low with barely any magnesium along with little ZDDP and Phos. How does this meet API requirements?

Something isn't right here.... Looks almost like a gear oil besides the viscosity.

I wouldn't sell this nor put it in any of my vehicles that I service.

No thats a different company, Im in NJ thats out of Canada. If it was an inferior oil, wouldnt we be seeing high wear metals and associated damage? Or at least a warning from Blackstone? Ill send a VOA in as well, and start shopping to see what else is around, but I normally recommend 5k on this. Seems like its safe for that long no?

Dude, didnt you see the barium?!?! lol

I can’t even see how this would meet the API specs. Something isn’t right with the uoa or oil. I wouldn’t put this in my engine or a customers based alone on that uoa additive levels without a voa.

Do you have the PDS or what specs it claims to meet?

Yeah, low wear rates but what do the internals look like? I wouldn’t even pay for that oil.

This is why Blackstone's comments are useless, they didn't even mention it has far below the minimum required levels of, well, EVERYTHING!!!

This oil does not meet even the most basic of performance requirements, this is like City Star, it WILL CAUSE DAMAGE.

This might the one time when Lubegard Bio-Tech could actually improve the additive package.

I lost my local connection with the Cam 2 I was using, this company supplies 3 shops in the area. The shop across the street was using their basic 5/30 for 15 years with no issues, so I figured it would be decent. I will be switching for peace of mind and sending them this UOA, and shopping for more wholesalers in the area. Our ratio between this and our Fuchs 5/40 barrels is like 1:4, as we raely get the bargain basement oil changes through our shop, so were not using this excessively.
Also, I will check the paperwork sent when I ordered it, because having the API spec is my only requirement really, but if theyre selling this as API rated and its not, who would I reach out to to report it?

This is not an actual API certified oil, it can’t be!
Wear is high for this engine; AL at 7 shows bad bearing wear from AL bearings.
No offense, but if you just went shopping for the cheapest bulk bidder you aren’t doing your customers any favours! Trying to maximize profit at the expense of all else is why shops get a bad reputation!

The 2.4L Tigershark is a POS anyway. :D

Its actually more expensive than the Cam 2 I was using! Pissed!!!

2 ppm more aluminum thank average means the bearings are failing????

Thanks for the link Critic.

2.4 engine isn’t that bad of an engine; but yes, some do have oil-burning issues.
No, the engine isn’t failing, but there does seem to be some extra wear happening. There are a couple of UOA’s on this engine that have single-digit wear at about this OCI, it is generally a low wearing engine

I remember when I was young, you could buy “non detergent” oil. Evidently you still can.
but I agree with Overkill, Blackstone should have said something about the lack of “everything.”

or, is this a test sample of the upcoming GF9 no SAPS oil?

I forgot who did a study but they found a certain (large) % of auto shops were using bulk oil that didn’t meet API and wasn’t the grade they claimed it was. Many shop owners were oblivious to what oil they were actually buying because it was “the cheapest.”
