Elton John

Saw Elton John In Kansas City along with Billy Joel. Not sure if it was a great concert, as the people sitting behind us thought they were better singers than Elton and Billy. Several stern looks did nothing to end the earsore. We asked security to help but they could not. They offered to move us. We accepted and ended up on the floor with card table seats. Beat nosebleed all to heck.

My favorite Elton albums are GBYBR and Honky Chateau. My favorite Billy Joel album is 52nd Street
HATE when that happens, been there before. SAME thing as when people have to stand up. Just stay seated and enjoy the show. It sucks to stand for 2 hours, just so you can see the performer!

“…… I'd never seen anything like that.

When he played the old Oklahoma City Civic Center (1973 maybe ?), he was pounding the piano pretty hard in the 1st set when this huge man came out of the wings. Dancing on stage.

All pretty normal, except he was dressed in a full hippopotamus costume complete with a frilly hot pink ballet tutu and white point shoes. The guy had to be over 6’6” tall plus the hippo head.

He danced (on pointe) two or three times around the piano and Elton didn’t miss a beat. All part of the show, and unforgettable some 50+ years later.

PS: yes, in 1973 drugs were involved, but I wasn’t the only one that saw the Dancing Hippo. ;)

I did love and still do love his music from the 70s, but when his great "reveal" occurred my interest in him plummeted faster than a falling meteorite. Since then I've heard only what he sang at Diana's funeral. Never saw him perform live and I am glad of it. YMMV.

Saw him and Billy Joel, one of the better concerts I have seen. I'd certainly go again.

Funny how when I was younger, I thought that artists should hang it up at some point before they became caricatures of their former selves or some such reason. Now with the benefit of advancing wisdom, and age, I recognize that is what they do, what they love (I think they have to at some level...it is a grind) and they should keep going as long as they can and as long as fans show up...

Agreed. At the one show of his I attended, I'd told my wife beforehand I didn't much care what he played, but I really wanted to hear Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. He opened with it, so that got me in a pretty good mood.
That whole pipe organ (probably a Moog?) intro really freaked me out the first time I heard it!! Really haunting and beautiful at the same time. That's a song imo he never topped.

I was bummed when BB King came to Boulder Colorado on one of his last tours. I Didn't really have the $225 a ticket! He died a month after that show.

Below was my first exposure to Elton John. I bought it through a record club. Remember those? Loved his music, didn't care for the flamboyant outfits, BUT the movie Rocketman transformed me into having compassion for the man. Rough upbringing!
