Elon Musk Expects Tesla’s Main Rival Will Be a Chinese EV Maker

China is everyone's main rival.

1) Very skilled labor in areas that the rest of the world has tried to curtail (industry).
2) Very lax/lack of an "EPA" which allows for cheap implementation of polluting techniques (refinement, chrome plating, etc.)
3) Experience with massive economy of scale.
4) Very well educated and skilled trades/R&D
5) Ability to produce very precise components when the call-outs require it. China did Tiangong all by themselves. No ISS for them. No. They did EVERYTHING themselves. https://interestingengineering.com/...se-tiangong-space-station-compares-to-the-iss
Say what you want...they built a space station. They can make a car/optic/knife/vacuum.

I didn’t load the video but if it wasn’t mentioned I’m thinking it’s BYD. Check them out. Not only will they dominate China, they just purchased a defunct Ford plant in Germany and will make EV’s for Europe. For those who are still stuck on China copying things, it’s way too late.

The top selling EV car in China is "a tiny vehicle developed by General Motors’ joint venture with Wuling Motors and state-owned SAIC Motor."
Followed by Tesla for #2 and #3 .. 2021 stats for 2022 there are a ton of players in the China Marketplace.

BYD is the top seller by a wide margin

The Chinese are way way ahead of us in electric vehicles. My first trip there I was expecting bicycles everywhere, but no, electric mopeds replaced them long ago. A lot of 12v batteries being charged at night!. You are correct BYD is a definite leader, but there are so many players it's pretty wild west in China. Wuling is one of my favorite Chinese manufacturers just because I love their micro vans. One day I'll bring a container home with me.

Ws6 nailed it but forgot
6) China has no reservations about stealing other companies IP, patents or technologies. Their business culture is very different from the Western world. Their attitude regarding such acts is that it is our fault for making it so easy to steal the technology.

Ws6 nailed it. I rember in a high school business the teacher said the planned demise of the U.S will be because of the government being run by corporate dollars and the politicians greed to serve lobby money. Note what the government schools and Tv has done to us.

This is wonderful post of FACTS.

It's simply that they can make an EV cheaper. The early adopters were higher income customers but in order for the rest of the world to adopt EVs, and have even remotely close to enough batteries for 1/4th of them, smaller, cheaper vehicles will need to outsell the rest. Charging their smaller batteries slower, will also help a taxed electric grid. Everyone wants faster charging, but everyone can't have really fast charging, any decade soon.

Good news that not everybody needs it at the same time. So everyone doesn’t have a requirement to have it anytime soon.
