Elf Excellium vs. Elf Evolution SRX

Not sure if anyone can help me out. I went to the local import place to pick up some Elf (after a lot of positive comments from a friend's euro shop). Anyways, asked the guy what the difference was between the different kinds of Elf are. He referenced some chart and for my car (2000 Honda Prelude - H22A4 4cyl 2.2L DOHC VTEC) and he handed a 5L jug of the Evolution SRX. At the euro shop, he uses excellium though.

So should I just stick w/ the evolution stuff or get the excellium? IIRC, the recomended weight is 5w/10w-30 depending on weather/driving conditions.
The original owner used mobil 1 5w30, I used GC 0w-30. The evolution SRX is a 5w30, excellium full tech is a 0w-30.

Well, no experience with these oils, however the website indicates "forbidden for diesel use" on the SRX and then the product data sheet indicates can be used for diesel

Check out the approvals on Full-Tech (FULL list) I would guess that it is the more robust oil.

On a side note: Although no experience with these oils, I would find it hard to find a compelling reason to use them. With the high price there are many other oils like Amsoil and Redline which will offer you great protection.

In regrads to using this oil... to be honest with you, I have heard good things about the stuff (but that's just an opinion... and you know what they say about opinions...) But purely from a cost persepctive, this stuff cost the same as M1... A 6qt case @ costco is ~$27/28 and a 5L jug of Elf (for me at the local store) is $27. I was surprised, I thought it was going to be way more. GC @ autozone is 6.19/qt x 6qt = $37 or so. (My car uses about 4.8 or 4.9 L per fill) So for 1 fill it's roughly the same, with GC being the most expensive by far.

Well for anyone interested, I put this in about 1K miles ago. So far so good, I guess... I mean the car is running smooth like before. I will try to post updates and try to do an oil analysis if I can.

In the meantime, any other info on the SXR (not SRX - that's a typo) would be MUCH appreciated!

I appreciate your posts on the Elf oil. I have no experience, but curious to follow your posts. ELF has been advertising for the past several months in the BMWCCA (BMW club) monthly magazine. Certifications they meet would lead one to believe these are a high quality product.

I used Excellium 5W-40 and 0W-40 in my Prelude 2.2 VTEC (H22A2) 1996 and 0W-40 looked considerably better. 5W-40 was OK till about 4500 km, but then started to burn. 0W-40 was OK will 7000 km. As for SRX 5w30, despite it's ACEA A5/B5 rated I would avoid it in H22Ax.

I've really been dying to try the excellium 5w40 in my Audi but i can't find it for less than $9 per quart which i think is wrong. The Mobil 1 0w40 is far cheaper.

I know this is an old thread, but I found a local shop that sells it here. I didn't get a chance to ask how much it costs but I'd assume it's going to be fairly expensive. I already have over 100 quarts of various oils in my basement, including Amsoil, Pennzoil Platinum and Havoline Synthetic but being the oil buff that I am, it was really tempting to try something new in my Integra. According to their website, my car would use the Evolution SXR 5w30. Should I even bother trying this? It would probably cost more than 2 cases of the oil in my basement for just 4 liters of the Elf

You must be buying it as S-G Import Car Parts!

I use ELF oils in my Saabs, 5W/40 in my 2000 9-5 with 223,000 miles and 0w30 in my wife's 2006 9-3SC with only 20,000 miles.

I had Blackstone run an analysis on 5W/40 that came out of the sump with the latest oil change. 5600 miles on a high mileage turbo charged engine and the results were fantastic!

Back to your original question. Check out ELF's website, maybe ELF-Canada since they seem to have more info readily available. The web site should contain a table indicating which oil to use for your engine.

Just so you know, ELF synthetic oils will soon disappear and be replaced by TOTAL Quartz Energy 9000 branded oils. Same oil, different bottle. ELF, TOTAL, and FINA brands are all the same company.

I've heard of S-G. 5 liters of it for $27 isn't bad at all, much cheaper than I was expecting. I think we have to pick up a timing belt there for my sister's Daewoo, so I might have to splurge

I have Saab Synthetic 0w30 in my Honda 2.4, it is nice and smooth. Imo, ELF is maybe the most desirable Euro brand, next to Fuchs. Man, I wish I could get some Fuchs non-MC oil.

I believe you. In the last few months i see a steady decline in ELF's internet appearance. If you search their safety data sheets , sorted by country, you see Total France , Total Switzerland and all these include ELF oils. What a waste for a brand that have a won so many F1 championships.
