Electronic parking brake?

My Subaru has the electronic brake and I don't like it either.

Its only a few seconds for the brake to fully engage, but it still bothers me. I don't particularly like listening to it make the goofy racket while its engagning either.

Let's see with a dead battery you can't start the car, unless it's a MT, so you don't usually need to move it anyway and after AAA jumps it for you it'll release. Also makes it easier for women to use the E brake.

I have to believe that some salesman from one of the suppliers did a blockbuster job at pushing this idea on somebody at Subaru and they actually fell for the sales pitch.

LOL! I just tried it today. The electric parking brake sounds like a cordless drill sinking in a wood screw. ZING..wahhh.

OMG I am cracking up...

it's not for the hill-holder feature on a urabus. that system holds hydraulic brake pressure in the lines as you take the foot off the brake, until the clutch is released. it's quick, and when adjusted right IS helpful on steep grades. If you live in the flatlands, you might not even know it's there. Where I grew up, we all drove manuals without it, and learned to start off at that light on an incline, but the hill holder did make it easier (and took some of the skill out of it, tho you still had to know what u were doing). for a point of reference, many of our intersections were too steep for a 2wd pickup in the rain to get going.

Electronic e-brake. extra safety measure if it auto-locks when parked. knows to release in D. harder to "play" with the car >

. offers interior flexibility. has to cost more $. more handicap-friendly. harder to modulate if you need it for steep hill starts from 0 mph.

my last post embraced the ecu-controlled t-stat.

this post says, no, I'd prefer a handle, when it comes to real safety.

I haven't tried the 'hill-holder' feature on mine. I have no idea why they'd include this on AT/CVT equipped models, but mine has the same button like pictured above.

That's not how it works on my 2.5i w/ CVT. It locks/unlocks the parking brake when the hill-holder button is pressed.

For any of you that think a "hill holder" feature is new, Subaru has had them for 30 years.

Someday, maybe, the outdated term "Emergency Brake" will leave our vernacular and we'll stop thinking the "Parking Brake" is for emergency use.

Note the "hill-holding" feature? I guess it will hold you on an incline until there's forward motion. Why you'd need this with AT is a mystery to me?

Clap on/clap off. The clapper! I wonder if next they will reintroduce push button gear selector on automatics replacing the gear shift lever entirely. Do not want.

On the hills in my area, the hill holder feature works great on my CVT equipped Prius. It prevents the car from moving back a few inches at a traffic light, which is helpful since some idiots get way too close behind you.

My 2007 Audi A6 has a similar setup. I had to purchase a Vag-com cable and software to do a rear brake job. Here is a link on procedure to replace rear pads.
