Educate me on QSUD and PP

M1 0/40 has about the highest level of Calcium based detergents which is mostly why it cleans so well. Boron compounds are also important as dispersants and in VOA terms for an oil that does not use Magnesium based detergents, the Calcium should be above 2500 ppm and the Boron above 50 ppm for a diesel, but lower figures are OK for gas engines. I think M1 is around 3500 ppm of Calcium, although some of the Amsoils are similar.
I've not seen a VOA of Shell Helix as that is supposed to be another good cleaner that Shell user might want to look at.

The DD in my sig has been getting MC, but I think I'll switch to NextGen so I can feel environmentally and ethically superior to the rest of you.

Sounds like you got a pretty good thing going. If I were to change anything, id run a euro oil in the supercharged car. Like GC or a 0/40. But thats just me

shell_user, any under the valve cover pics? how did clean did it look after using QSUD for awhile? I'm thinking of either going with QSUD of Valv. Synpower to keep my engine clean, but was leaning towards trying QSUD as I've heard several people claim their engine seemed quieter on it and I have some valvetrain clatter I'd like to try and quiet up if possible.

The new M1 line up doesn't have near 2500ppm CA, it's about 1000-1500 with 0w40 and 15w50 being the exceptions.

Afoulk, I used QSUD for about 24k and that was before the timing belt, valve cover gasket and weeping crankshaft seal I did to the car. Did those things at 113k. When valve cover was off, didnt see any varnish, just oil film and metal. Works for me, though next oil change I may return the jug of QSUD 5w20 for PP 5W20. I may just use the QSUD 0w20 jugs(have two left) and return the one 5w20 QSUD jug.
