Edge and Syntec have combined

I saw these bottles on WalMart's shelves today. The "Edge Syntec" was $24.50, cheaper than the plain Edge which was $28.00. Makes me believe that there will be a "higher" grade of Edge in the future.

The future is NOW, I went to Castrol's website and sure enough, there is going to be a "Castrol EDGE with Titanium Fluid Strength Technology", to quote them which "takes Edge to the next level". This will be the higher priced Edge with the 15,000 mile/one year warranty.

Castrol is still offering the top tier EDGE(with titanium technology), just to be clear on this. I personally think this is confusing to the lay person. I like the original EDGE motor oils, and am not impressed with this latest marketing technique.

From the looks of it, it's still available and API SL rated, ACEA A3, ACEA B3, ACEA B4.

There marketing is very confusing. There is still no PDS on Edge with Liquid Titanium.

So is Edge no longer available?

The PDS spec's were never as good for the Syntec 0W-20 and 5W-20 grades vs the GF-4 Edge.
For the 0W-20 the VI is 174 vs 220 for the GF-4 Edge, and for the 5W-20 161 vs 175. The culprit is much higher KV40 spec's.

I don't think it's too much technology, just too darned many different versions of the same oil. Only 5w,10w,15w and 20w in synthetic or conventional would cover the spectrum well enough.

They officially confirm that they are letting 5W-50 replace the 20W-50 Syntec

this has been known for some time.

Saw someone buying 5W-50 Syntec for $8 a qwuart at O'Reilly the other day. 5W-50 grade!
