Echo Power Blend 2-Cycle oil

This is the JASO-FC, ISO-LEGD spec oil that Echo sells for all it’s 2 cycle air cooled equipment.

The MSDS on this oil seems to indicate that it is a bright stock, polybutene blend. Echo has advertised the oil in the past as a low smoke formulation, but has never promoted the fact that it is a Group 1 / Group 5 synthetic blend.

It has the usual Stoddard solvent associated with bright stock, but what about the anti wear/ antiscuff additive? What do you think, is it ZDDP or MoDTC ?

There is no bright stock in this formula. PIB replaces bright stock.
The solvent is found in almost all two cycle oils regardless of base stock used.
The primary AW mechanism is the PIB. A calcium based detergent and a very small amount of zddp will also be part of the formula. Since sulfated ash from mettalic compunds causes plug fouling and deposits issues you cant use much zddp.

Bright stock would be called something like bright stock 150. It is a much heavier cut than standard base oils.

Took a little time, but I finally found the source for CAS 64741-88-4.

It is a Conoco 650 base oil. See the link for the MSDS sheet.

From the voa I have seen most use a slight amount of zinc.

I use commercial echo trimmers but i do not like their oil. Maybe this new stuff will not smoke like their previous stuff. Echo and stihl make great products but their oils tend to be mediocre. Try oregon 2 cycle oil as i have had fantastic results with it and it is much cheaper than echo oil. If you cannot find it then go with good old amsoil. Look for my post on echo trimmers and oregon oil. I havent had to buy any new trimmers or had any carbon issues with my trimmers since i have used the oregon brand.

If you are having a issue with smoke when using most modern two cycle oils you likely have a carb tuning issue.

Back to antiwear, the AW additive could be either MoDTC or AntimonyDTC for this type of blend, as Molakule indicated in another post.

A point of interest is that Citgo, Quaker State & Maxima all market a 2 cycle mineral oil/polybutene blend. Echo, however, backs the effectiveness of the formulation with equipment warranties and meeting the requirements of the 2005 EPA emissions regs.

The Echo equipment line is fairly popular with commercial lawn care businesses. Many hours get logged each week on trimmers & blowers using this oil. This blend evidently provides good low smoke & antiwear performance.

Are you referring to the 1.8 oz pouch that actually is Opti-2 with an Oregon Outdoor Products label?

Blue99, No. Im looking in my suppliers catalog and i just noticed they now have 2 types of oregon 2 stroke oil. The one you refer to is the "only one" product. I use the other which is "2 cycle power equipment oil." I buy mine in 1 gallon jugs and case lots of those nifty 1 gallon mix bottles. The only one line appears to be more for california emission guidelines. Who is champion brands llc? Is that fram?

I cant argue with results. This is good stuff and my trimmers and saws love it.

If the Oregon 2 cycle oil is a re-labeled version of the Champion oil, then it is a mineral oil formulation, based on the MSDS sheet.

I never said this was syn oil. It could very well be a rebottled oil but im not sure. This stuff works great for me and i say try it and see.
