Hm. Well, if I have the bag in hand along with an invoice, and send him a money order for the amount due, I'd be clear, yes?

Absolutely! No worries on your part at all :^)

If the payment truly is unclaimed, it will automatically be refunded after 30 days. The only reason the payment would go into an unclaimed status is if the seller did not confirm their email address or if the email address you sent the payment to is not on his PayPal account.

Well, I've canceled the payment, and written to the seller to take him up on his offer to send the bag and wait for my payment. We'll see what he/she says.

In the meantime I'm eying some other medical bags, just in case.

The only problem I could see,is that since the transaction is not going through Ebay,if the seller takes your money and runs, you may not have any recourse to get your money back.

Right; which is why I will wait to see if he sends the bag, and if it's as described. If it doesn't or isn't, he's out some money, and I'm out some time.

Annoying, though, should it never show up/be garbage, and I miss out on buying a better item in the meantime.

Ask the seller to re-list the item as a buy it now for the price y'all agreed on,buy it,then send him a check/money order, and see what he says.

I'd send a POSTAL money order, and send it return-reciept.

Don't go down that road at all.

Report it to eBay. You can choose how to report it -- there are many options such as "did not send item" or "asked for payment outside eBay".

I'm no ebay buyer, so I ask a sincere question... What is wrong with the method that is being described? - Benzadmiral gets the goods and inspects it, then mails out a check after approving of the item.

Wouldn't it just be a case the seller trying to make good? If it's going to stiff ebay on the fees, what's the big deal? The flip side is the seller gets badmouthed for a bad transaction. Sounds like a lose/lose deal for the seller.

What would prevent the seller from accepting the payment after they cashed the MO?

I wouldn't send a second form of payment until confirmation the original PayPal payment is stopped.

Sorry, missed this part.

Wouldn't Benzadmiral canceling has paypal payment (as he indicated he wanted to do) do the trick?

edit: Nevermind- javacontour didn't see the post I was referring to...

Hello, all,

The seller has confirmed he'll send the bag to my work address, and I'll be glad to mail him a money order. Jarlaxle, why would postal be better than one from, say, a bank?

This is a Violation of EBAY buyer and seller agreements which both parties made and agreed to before using the site - Whatever that's worth

As long you wear gloves while handling the money order, it should be fine. What if the seller ran finger print search and found you in the data base?

Of course, it is a joke but I am trying to understand the paranoia in this particular case. I presume ebay has already given the seller your name and shipping address.

If I understand correctly, the seller is shipping you the bag first,THEN you'll send him a money order? If that's the case,at least you don't have to worry about getting gyped....you send him payment, and he sends you a box of dirt haha, that'd SUCK!!

Right; he has that. This transaction seems no different from the old-fashioned and nearly extinct "on approval," where the seller sends the material in question, and "on approval," the buyer pays. He's risking the loss of his item or his payment if I default.

The extra $1.25 the PO will charge me for the money order is pretty small stuff.

I would normally agree, but PayPal (an Ebay company) has failed to complete the payment process to the satisfaction of seller and buyer...leaving them to seek alternative solutions...

Update,

The seller, Rebecrav, tells me that it was indeed something to do with her email and thus her PayPal account. She's straightened it out; I've paid as per the agreement. So, much ado about nothing, I'm afraid. Thanks for all the input!
