I'm literally never selling on ebay again. I practically gave away a 100 dollar calculator for 19.00 on ebay the other day. From now on I'm just going to sell stuff on craigslist. Honestly I could have gotten proably $40.00 for it on craigslist. Although you do waste time waiting for them to show up and that accounts for something. 90 percent of the time I sell an item within 48hrs of me posting the ad on craigslist. Not always though, many times I can tell the person is just a low baller, but hey I just wait until I have someone message me that sounds ligit. What are you experiences? I was hoping more people would bid on my item at the last minute or so and sell at a higher price like the rest of the calculators.

Post your item, take your chances.

Sold a rare(ish) carb for $280, that was sitting gathering dust, and another less rare one for $5...was very disappointed in the latter, but the former was great.

Thinking logically, there's $285 in my pocket that was absolutely worth nothing to me gathering dust in the shed...even the $5 was worth nothing if I wasn't going to do anything but leave it for my children to toss in 25 years time.

Can't you set a reserve price on ebay anymore? Why complain if you don't set it at the minimum you'll accept?

Better yet, start the bidding at the minimum you'd take for it. Although yes, ebay still has the reserve option.

I've become pretty frustrated as of late with ebay as well. As a small time user/seller I am LOSIGN MONEY ON SHIPPING. The ebay calcuation is routinely way off from the paypal label tool. Combine that with the fact you need an actual paypal balance to print a shipping label AND PP now holds your funds until AFTER DELIVERY...

Ebay has turned its back on the home seller.

I'll have items sit for weeks and then get a couple of bids when they sell often. Buyers have lots of stuff to sift through on non-unique items. I've sniped my fair share of stuff on ebay, particularly electronics, so I don't like to let it happen when I list stuff if I can avoid it.

By rule I don't list for less than I would be willing to sell it for, it if sits it sits.

Shipping scales like this one are all over ebay, probably can be found cheaper through bidding - I have that exact model in black and mine is accurate - usually slightly over if anything, and I've used it to ship Christmas presents in 1+ feet by 2+ feet sized boxes, and am able to balance the package and get the weight accurate. You don't need a paypal balance to print a shipping label, might have something to do with the type of paypal account you have, but I print all my labels with a CC, and withdraw my balance immediately after purchase. Only issue I have is more often that I would like, the first attempt to pay with a CC fails and I have to try it a couple of times (never double charged, and ebay has stopped me from print a label a second time if it went through and I didn't realize).

You're not really mad at eBay but that the demand for what you were selling was lower than what you thought it would be. That's not ebay's fault.

Should list it as a used item on Amazon.

There's a lot of water under the bridge at EBay, but one thing they should have changed back in the day is extending an auction's ending time to prevent sniping.

$3 inder $149.99 and 2% $150 and over, max $100.

I prefer to just use buy it now, that way I can set my price and I require buy it now so I don't have to wait to be paid.

?? Just how would that work? I love sniping - both as a buyer and seller.

The reverse of the world falling at your feet to buy your item at your self imagined prices.

Gotcha. Not bidding at all , until clock is almost out.
Thanks for the explanation.

Dear Madman-

As others have mentioned, there are simple ways to avoid this from happening. You need to take some time to research your options, and figure out what is best for you next time.

You can either set a reserve on an auction next time, or simply set a "buy it now" price on a 30 day listing, and then wait for it to sell.

Unfortunately, your experience was likely not eBay's fault.

I'm surprised you got $19 for it. Most (if not all) cell phones have calculators on them these days, not many people need a stand-alone calculator...
