I am using them or rather was to sell a couple items. Convenience I suppose.

Trying to configure a listing and add the shipping is a complete nightmare when listing. After an hour plus of wasted time, I just made it free shipping. It's complicated on purpose I figure to make money for ebay. I can ship on my own, they want to DIFY. I've heard they try to pinch the seller for that too.

I listed one item and got a violation alert. I listed the actual manufacturer's web site in the description so potential buyers can see the specs. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZT. Wrongo Chucko. I had to delete that. Fine. But ebay would not acknowledge the revision. I went to file a grievance and ebay said the site was down. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh. Wait 3 hours and OK.

Their fees are outrageous. Crazy. Enough.

I may still buy but..........I'm sour.

I buy the occasional thing on eBay but it does look like it would be more trouble than it's worth as a seller. Side gripe: Why do so many eBay sellers have used items priced for almost the same amount that I can buy it for new in stores?

Simple because of the fees and they target those that live the eBay life.
They haven't heard of Amazon yet...lol

Looks like I have purchased 3 things on ebay so far this year. In past years it would have been 100.

I used to sell a few things on ebay. Or Craigslist. I wouldn't even try anymore with either, way too much hassle.

It used to be a true garage sale - regular people selling to each other. Now its seems to be a bunch of scammers. I wonder what the overall volume is compared to a decade ago?

I used to buy a lot from ebay, mostly small accessories and parts but now I'm finding Amazon has it for less and will get it to me quicker.

I sell stuff from around the house I no longer need and feel bad throwing away, but it's getting to be more of a hassle than it's worth. If they start sending 1099s, I'll start tossing it. In addition to fees, shipping costs are out of control which is why I'm finding it for less on Amazon.

Ebay is good for unique items only, you're not going to find a used taillight for a 1992 Cavalier on Amazon.

It has been a bit, but I just let eBay figure out the shipping charge and used their service to send the item. I never set the charge 1) because it's so variable, 2) eBay was often lower than my work account, and 3) if someone had an issue with the price of shipping, I did not quote it. Take it up with who did.
But it's been awhile. I've had mostly good luck with Marketplace lately. Besides, the price of shipping anything these days is outrageous (IMO).

Yeah that was awhile back. Nothing like that anymore

I went to bid on something, vs buying it now like I normally do, and they wanted me to pick a credit card so when and if I won it would automatically go through without further action on my part. Shaaaady.

I sell stuff on ebay. Input box size and weight info into the ad, pick what carrier you want to use (FedEx, UPS, USPS) and the system does the rest. Mind you, I'm in the USA, so maybe that matters?

Ebay has exposure to a huge worldwide market. Selling fees are about 15%. What option do we have? Even though I hate ebay's fees, they still get you more money than most other selling venues.

I’ve been getting niche car parts for my Jeep on eBay.

Also just got an OEM idler pulley for the Lexus there from a reputable seller. I worry about authenticity on Amazon, but if it’s a high volume 99.9% seller on eBay I’m not too worried.

You mistake what was hassling me. You are talking about after the sale shipping. I was writing about making a listing.

Fees used to be 5-6% now over 16% fee.

Craig's list, Nextdoor, Facebook are free options, but local and scum are everywhere.

It's not shady. It's bee like that for a long time. They just want to make sure you'll pay, if you are the highest bidder and not change your mind in the end, and not pay even you won the item.

Did you post on your listing a website you are not associated with it? I think that tells you why your listing was taken down.
Isn't it safer just to copy/paste the information about the item, instead of giving a 3rd party website for additional info that you are not associated with?

I just today pulled off ebay, a small printing press and platesetter on ebay after a couple of months. I used their "promotions" choice and wanted to use it for 2 to 3 weeks and then just let it sit gaining slower "looks". But guess what, the available page to "disable or stop" the promotions that WERE their on day 1 and day 2 where gone after that and 2 hours of emailing and chating and phone calls that I did not reach anyone could not get the added cost of promotions turned off. It finally got a "bad sale" because the buyer did not understand, that even though I posted "the buyer takes care of all shipping with his or her own shipper and I as the seller will have the press and platesetter skidded up for YOUR shipper to pick up." in the description. Yet the ONLY way I could post the press was to put 99 cent shipping and added the above to shipping comment that the only way I could post this add was to put 99 cent shipping because there was no way to put this add up other then 99 cent shipping. The buyer agreed to scrub the sale as he thought he was getting 99 cent shipping. ebay is so so so screwed up these days JUST so they can screw you. I will buy through there IF I have to, but never sell there again. ebay is TRASH.

Look Up Rabbit or Rob Pitts story on YouTube. His channel Rabbit's used cars talks about being banned from ebay after figuring out what their sales algorithm. Quite the watch.
