Eastwood internal frame coating

I used it several days ago. I ran the compressor with and long air nozzle into various openings in the frame. I was surprised how much Sandy grit, and leaves came out. I kept doing it until it was clean.

Then I used the Eastwood internal frame coating. It worked real well with that 2’ tube. I was surprised how much coverage it did!

I had the front end, completely disassembled. 160 thousand miles I was replacing everything. I use the needle scaler, a cordless drill with various wire brushes. I got easily 99% of the rust removed. I sprayed that with the rust reformer paint. Waited a few days and spraying black flat enamel.

Also completely cleaned up both knuckles. I’m not sure if I can coat them with something? They probably haven’t looked this good in many years!

I’ve got a couple more parts arriving today. Then I can start putting it back together.

hey thanks for the update and the pictures! looks awesome! was the coating runny and thin? I know you were going to tape the hole shut on the frame to keep it inside. And you can coat the knuckle, usually people coat it with the paint on (can) of the Eastwood rust coating. I was planning on doing that with mine, using the frame coating for internal parts (inside the control arms) but outside using the brush on from the can. Either way, your pictures look awesome! (y)
 
I've used the Eastwood stuff, it's zinc rich so helps keeps rust at bay. Id use a sewer Jet inside the frame to clean it up and then spray the Eastwood stuff
 
I'm not a fan of a flat paint as a top coat, even on walls in a house, flat paints seem to like to absorb, and is why it is most always considered a primer. Most all factory frame coats where either a semi gloss or gloss, or even a satin.

I’m probably going to coat everything later with fluid film. Had to get rid of the rust first. Then rusty metal primer. Then top coat.

Was waiting for more front end parts, bolts, etc.

Should have all new front end parts finished in a week or so. Will post more photos
 
Nice work, just like your paperhanging John! Excellent prep work from what I could see of the frame. I'll give it a good looking over next time you drive it back to L.I. ;)

Something like cosmoline much better than fluid film.
Yes it would be better but I would imagine that being a greasy mess whenever you do work under the vehicle. I used CORTEC VPCI368 which has held up extremely well. If that is no longer available I would use one of the Noxudol products.
 
Cosmoline hardens after some time.
I switched from RP–342 to CRC 06026 a few years ago because I didn’t like RP–342‘s new spray nozzle. I can tell you that 10 years after RP-342 application on a 2006 Escalade it still behaves the same. In warm weather it gets tacky, creeps and repairs itself. In the winter, it gets hard. No sand and grime which is what I love about it. The CRC 06026is lighter but sprays better IMO. I used CRC on a used 2019 Cherokee 3+ years ago. I still have a touchup 4 pack from Amazon that I haven’t used because so far I haven’t needed to. No bleeding. No rust. Behaves the same as RP-342 getting soft or hard depending on temperatureexcept the coat is thinner. This is what I would use inside the frame after compressed air spraying it out with a hose and letting it dry for a week.

Only prep using cosmoline is getting the surface clean, no oil or rust flakes. Spray right over any surface rust. Don’t worry about connectors hoses brake lines hit it all.
