Earth hour

So where else do you go in the morning and be expected to do without coffee? True it is a generational thing. Few places provide free Coke.

It took years to get most people to quit throwing their trash out of the car window. When my son was in 4H for archery most of the people were from rural areas and into bowhunting. I remember complaints about rifle hunting season as all of sudden there was 7-11 and McDonalds trash all over the roads, so it's still a problem.

One can't go anywhere on earth without evidence of man having taken a dump in his bed; chemical residues in arctic animals, ozone holes in the Antartcic, populations of animals crashing all over the world, tons of trash on top of Everest.......

Why is it so hard for people to pick up after themselves? What is wrong with them?

It really is upsetting when people throw cigarette butts out of car windows. I look over and just shake my head.

Funny thing about the trash left by weasels visiting Everest: 90%+ of them consider themselves environmentally aware. People are lazy pigs. Even the ones who turned their lights out.

I did my part;I turned on every light in my house, and every appliance!

and how about all the extra mercury we will have about 10 years down the road when all of the CFL bulbs go bad....I guess we will worry about them later....

Not a big deal, just put a deposit on them and they will show up @ the recycling center. It really isn't that hard....

Sure, drag a straw man in. But let's play anyway: there are between 1 and 5 mg mercury in one CLF. The amount is ever decreasing with newer bulb designs, mostly because mercury is costly. The small amount of mercury that is released when a CFL breaks, is easily offset by reduced power consumption: coal-fired power plants release large amounts of mercury. CFLs must be properly recycled, at least here in CA.

According to the media, Sydney's consumption dropped 10%.

The machines that I have access to dropped around 5%.

Interesting you should mention this. Each little CFL contains a couple milligrams of Hg. A couple mg is plenty to poison several people. Hg is extremely neurotoxic to all lifeforms, in that it interrupts the generation and regeneration of axons (your brain). In-vitro studies clearly demonstrate that in only 30 minutes, the neurite membranes (myelin sheath) was rapidly degenerated leaving 'denuded' neurofibrils. Basically imagine wiring having the insulator sheath melted off and the resulting chaos. Autism? Aspergers? Insomnia? Palpitations? Cretinism? retarded teenagers? moody and irrational people? Hg no doubt reduces IQ, mental acuity and brain function. Now, who and why would someone want to put this stuff in people's teeth, in infants' and childrens' vaccines (and force/bully people into taking them, especially children) and make [censored] sure that every household has a little pressurized vial of this stuff in every E27 light socket, ready to break? Who would even care when the hyped concerns of 'lead painted' trinkets are overblown and made to be the sensationalist diversion of choice? No opinions here, just question and fact. (and digression, sorry
