Seriously, it's great that your Z4 has been reliable. Most BMWs unfortunately aren't.

I think my BMW 330Ci w/ Performance Package (yes, it does have aesthetic AND mechanical upgrades over the regular 330Ci) might have been a SEMI mid life crisis car - i say SEMI because I loved their shape and the build for a long time before I really had any MLC feelings...It's a great cure for many things, I must say - puts a smile on my face when I drive it...

Is it an automagic? I believe the 1996 Z3 will still have the GM 4L30E AT.
Not really a bad thing given they were in production from ~1992-2004 and used in highly off-road capable Isuzu Troopers and Rodeos right up to their end.
It's kind of an odd-duck AT with the 4th gear/OD adapter housing and was one of the first dipstickless ATs. It's still pretty easy to service though and I've seen reports of them going well into the 200K mile range with reasonable service.

It's a manual- I can't imagine buying a "fun" car with an automatic. I am looking forward to shifting again- and working on the car
Sounds weird, but I have done very little to my two Hondas and end up having to help other people fix their cars to get it done. The good news is that since it is not a need, I can so no to this one and keep looking.
