There used to be a guy here who did rebuilt titles, specialized for a while in Volvos, Mercedes and a dabbled with land rovers. Frankly, he did fine work, had repeat customers and I almost bought an s60 off of him. He’d spend as much time answering questions as I chose to hang around. He hired a friend of mine to run and install transmission lines in an X5 he was stumbling around with, so a couple of us knew him.
His paint “booth” had entirely inadequate ventilation - 3 box fans taped in place at the end of the pole barn under a part-opened roll up door. I’m hoping he wore good PPE. He was teaching his son to paint and the son’s work was quite good. I mentioned to my friend that the fumes, even when I was there, were really bad. He said, “then don’t go there at night, as you won’t be able to smell the paint through the weed. He goes back there, lights up, and goes to work.” I’ll say this, his paint work was fabulous and his rebuilds were carefully selected and to my eye were done with pride in his work. I’m not sure if he’s still around.
