Anyone here know anything about ear candles? Apparently you stick a hollow candle in your ear the smoke supposedly draws out the ear was. I don't see how this can possibly work but know a few people who swear by it.

I recommend washing ears every blue moon. Or use a corkscrew once every other year.

Seems to defy quite a few laws of physics and chemistry, and some more of common sense.
I use peroxide (3%) to remove it.
(used to get them syringed, until I had a doctor flip out on me when she examined my ear after syringing and found a perforated ear drum. Either perforated during the syringing, or before, but couldn't be seen through the wax. Could have been nasty).

I thought for sure Pablo would be an avid ear candler
its bogus...do some research. There are NO benifits from it for you or your ears. You line the pockets of those that sell them and also risk setting yourself on fire.
I didn't say I was doing it...If you read my post you'll see how I don't possibly see how it would work. I'm sorry I posted the subject.

Yeah, Brett ..it's your turn. Don't get miffed .. I never quite figured out the "induction draft" candling technique there either. There's a local "spa" that uses them and all sorts of other "stuff".
I use the Shannow method. I just get the peroxide in there somehow (tilting head works - but does require practice) ...flush with warm water ..watch nasty stuff go down the drain. I use it on the dog's ears for mite control. They get a little excited about it.
I like the Chinese ear digging method. Feels good, too.
I thought you are not supposed to put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow.

I thought the Chinese (excuse blatant generalization!) used that disgustingly long pinkie fingernail for digging.
My future MIL, a very nice Japanese lady, gave a me a mimikaki as a gift once. I didn't know I had dirty ears, but ever since I've been paranoid about dirty ears and wear earmuffs all the time. Don't look at me!

Put a giant Q-Tip in a power drill. Add sand as grinding medium as needed.
Chinese method = girl sits on arm of large chair and inserts various probes, hooks, etc while wearing a headlamp, etc. I choose not to look at what was coming out.
