Al Amatuzio, founder and owner.

Amzoil, shortening of Amatuzio, and combined with oil. Later changed to Amsoil after pressure and suing by Pennzoil. A lawsuit won by Amsoil, but at that point the just stuck with Amsoil.

I highly doubt Amsoil knew (or thought too deeply about it) that Wix would be making some of the filters in Mexico. I hate it too, believe me.

I don't believe that Wix makes all Amsoil filters. Amsoil makes their own media under license from Donaldson for the SYNTEQ process and spec/secure their own parts. Wix makes a good number of them ..perhaps all of the Ea-BP line ...but if another man makes sense for a given filter, they allegedly go with them.

Well look at the retail price of the average Amsoil EaO filter. Figuring the majority of the filter are Wix parts - outside of the Donaldson synthetic media - then factor-in the cheap assembly costs. Then look at the retail prices of most Wix - then tell me that Donaldson synthetic media is worthy of the additional $10-$14 added price to the Amsoil filter??

I would bet/I have a hunch that the profit margin for these filters are much beyond the norm. What makes these filters so expensive?

I do my homework, come to a conclusion, which I put up on the web for all to criticize, and then VOTE WITH MY WALLET. Works for me. If the vendor has issues, he/she can make changes.

BTW. Threads like this get old and repetitive after the 2nd responses

Amsoil ! though before discount Fleetguard filters with syntech media "the same or close to media are pricy.

Years (many) ago, we could buy booze at the Army Class VI store in Germany with no taxes.

Dixie Belle gin was about 80 cents per qt.
Beefeaters was $1.05.

Then there was a big push to encourage sale of US products.

Dixie Belle was still 80 cents.
Beefeaters went to something like $1.75

On my $222.30 a month, I still bought Beefeaters.

I guess there might be something to be said for quality.

If you want a decent, inexpensive filter, there are a lot of them out there. If you want what has been shown to be the best available, pay the extra.

Go and see what a SYNTEQ filter ..in something like an P169071 ( FL1A) will cost you at one of Donaldson's vendors. locator

See what they'll sell it to you for.

Not bad about 2 bucks cheaper than what I paid for an EAO
