Whats wrong with the E-CORE filters? I have heard mixed reveiws with these things but it seems that many filter brands have switched to the e-core (champion) type filter. I have cut one open before and outside of it not having metal end caps it seemed to be made pretty good and with good flow, better than the Fram's. My AC DELCO filters used to be made by purolator and now they are Champion e-core's.

I'm not sure there is anything majorly wrong with ecores. I used them from when they first came out until the beginning of this year. I guess from a comparison standpoint after using two P1 on the same car. I can say the oil appears a cleaner color for a longer period of time. Whether or not that really show a performance difference is up for interpretation.
You can still get ACDelco classic that are not ecore. AcDelco were made by Champion Labs and some were made by WIX. You can tell a WIX by the big holes in the baseplate and a silicon ADBV.
The problem claimed with ecores is some might sometimes blow the media out because of the wide spacing of the nylon center cage, and that if the center cage failed it'd probably totally dislodge/collapse the media blocking oil flow. Also the bypass is in combination with the ADBV. I don't know if that can be an issue. Some claim the fiber end caps aren't good enough but I think they are fine. Other than that the ACDelco ecores seem to be well made and filter well. I prefer the classic design though.

Where can i get the AC Delco classics? All the Walmarts around here have the e-core's.
If a nearby dealer carries boxed filters they may have the regular style. The short AC P/N should not end in 'E', i.e. its a PF47 and not a PF47E.
For a while at least there were three P/Ns available to dealers on the most common filters: "durapack" (which are most common anymore) are cases of unboxed ecore filters, boxed regular filters, and boxed "E" filters which are ecore.

I've used them many times in the past... I would use it again in the future but, the ST for all the cars in my family is not E-Core. There's some pics I posted awhile back of an Delco 46 and a ST 3614.
Stick with WIX,NG,P1 there not escraps..
