Well, the Supertech filter I just took off my Moms 2002 Silverado V-8 which was on there for 1 year and looked perfect.

Also EVERY filter I've opened up (all brands) the rubber has always looked and felt like new. Never had one crack or harden.

And I can tell you our weather is MUCH colder and Hotter than your area..

Here is a thread that I show 4 filters that I've used. They cover 115 degrees to 30s. Photos of filters opened

See that the Rubber in all of them is like new...

I have cut open Ecores that were used on a Silverado Pickup @5k miles and a PT Cruiser @4k and both were great.

Here is a thread I started when I cut open a NEW Ecore New Ecore photos

No problems found here...

I think I can comment since I've USED the Ecores more than once and cut open everyone incl a new one.. Not too many others have..

Wonder why your seeing so much problems with filters?

I'm using ecores now on couple of my fleet. I think that you kinda have to figure that the design of the ADBV would compress the end caps on the media ..hence the rigidity of the material isn't a big issue ..nor would the failure limit on its seperation. I would see problems if the media collapsed ..but that's already in a NFG situation. Most of us couldn't figure out how electronic sensors could manage in our hot and harsh mechanical environments a couple of decades ago ..now we don't think too much of it. That is, this type of bonding, and its seemingly "weak" nature, may be more one of misplaced weight of "perception" than it is anything of merit.

I'm most concerned with the bypass valve on the E-core. Does it leak much dirty oil through even when bypass isn't needed? Unfortunately, that's difficult to measure. About the only way is to check UOAs from engines running E-cores... if there are elevated wear metals or particle counts.

The end cap bonding, like I said originally, is probably adequate... even if much weaker than the competition.

kanling. I had the same thought about the bypass on a earlier e-core filter reply about how the bypass works. Gary Allan was able to finally explain it to me, but after understanding it I dislike the design even more and will stay with the WIX/Motorcraft filters. I am not impressed with it at all.

So what happens when a bypass fails to open? Yes, the oil pump relief will open and flow will be reduced to the engine, but what about the reports of the can being blown off the filter? I really wonder about the judgment of those looking at the Ecore and saying it will never work. They started out questioning the plastic center core long proven in the cartridge elements, then compare the end caps to the thrown together Frams, and now question if the bypass will open. I think even the worst dolt would catch on before too long if everything except the base plate blew off on a cold start.

I think I will trust the positive reports of the long term members that are using the Ecore.

A lot of top mechanics and dyi'ers once thought straight weight oil was the only way to go and multi-vis was stupid...

Okay ..probably it's best to stop here ..before we go too much further into the realm that brings out our anxieties.

I had the unique oportunity to work in a locked psychiatric facility for about two years before transferring to another unit within the foundation (one very big residential care organization). The place had some true (for lack of a better term) crazy people in it (also true of most of the staff) ..but for the most part it was an intake and evaluation placement for determining where they would be best served. I got to see group dynamics in a very closed environment in a very "up close" manner. We had to maintain some type of order ..and had (usually) a group of what could easily be termed "juvinile delinquents" (your basic teenager) that somehow their school district decided to ditch into someone elses hands.

Anyway ..it was sorta the same thing. Disorder, or its arrival, wasn't a distinct and overt occurance ..it kinda eeeeeeeeeeased its way into the normal social function of the place. It would start with a comment that was sorta "borderline" ...and then followed by another ..and before you knew it ..chaos ..and it all happpened right under your nose with you watching it the whole time. The only people who could really see it, as it progressed, were those who were somewhere else ..and then walked in on it. That is, it was quite insideous in its nature and evolution.

It seems that they were not all that different in terms of social tendancies.
