The Havoline does everything nicer. I swear. Throttle response and smoothness...everything. On paper the M1 0w30 SL should be a fantastic oil in my Honda 2.4, but I like the 20 weight dino better. Go figure.

btw- the M1 was pretty fresh still, came out at 3000 miles. The Havoline went in as a last minute decision, I was going to refill with M1.

Great. I ran M1 0w30 sl for a while but I never noticed much of a difference in performance improvement in oils until I tried a 5w20 conventional.

Smoothness I can see, it's subjective enough not to matter, but throttle responce? 1% if that attritable to oil. Recripicating mass, flywheel mass, air flows, fuel delivery/burning and many more waaaay more influence on throttle responce.

You did switch from a 30 to a 20 weight at operating temperature. Most likely that is the root of the reason you are feeling what you're feeling with the throttle.

Agreed.

Most likely he would get even better performance of Mobil 1 5W-20 or 0W-20. I did when I ran 5W-20.

I sit here puzzled by your claims..I have owned more than 40 vehicles in my lifetime, have used many different motor oils, but have never experienced improvements such as yours..But, if your happy, that's what counts...

What kind of OCI are you planning with the Havoline?

The HDS might only stay in 2-3 months because I have about 35q stashed. I have a lot of synth oils to use up so I'm doing a lot of short ocis. I'm moving to an urban area too, so I just don't really have a feel for my driving circut yet. I'm probally sticking with 3 or 4 month ocis to literally use-up my SL oil stash.

2 fills of Havoline Synth is next and I might just skip all the other odd oils I have, right to my PP stash. Odd oils are what the wife's car is for...literally. I still have 15q of SL Mobil 1 0w-30, I dunno. A lot of my oils are 2005 or 04, like those two. If I get distracted my small bunches of the other SM oil I have, like SynPower, my PP will be kinda ancient by the time I use it, some is 06 and most is 07, about 7 cases. I'm actually pouring over a list to figure it out.

I'm in the same boat here. While I have had certain brands that make my vehicles USE more or less oil, I've never had the idle/acceleration/engine noise become an issue.
Maybe I need to do a chant or cast a spell first.
Either that, or just pay more attention.

Anyone remember the poster a few years ago that claimed even his air conditioner ran better when he put a certain brand of oil in his car? It's amazing what some will claim 4 or 5 qts of oil will do...

I've never noticed a difference in how my car runs between different brands either... -shrug- I was thinking of trying 5W-20 someday but 5w30 seems to be working just fine for me.

Isn't your Honda spec'd for 5w-20?

My A/C works better when I put a certain brand of oil in as well. I am keeping the brand a secret cause I do not want to start a run on it!!!

30w vs, 20w

Schaeffer's reduced a tick in the engine. 20k miles of it must have done something!

Next up is the Shell dino from Pep Boys supposed to go into the fiancee's now-dead car. After that a witch's brew of leftover Schaeffer's, SynPower, and Shell dino to fully deplete the stash. I'm good for another year of oil changes before needing to buy oil again!

Although testing a 20 weight this summer would be intriguing! See if a different car can mirror the effects shown here!
