Dump Truck Build: 2000 Mack DM690S

Just curious, for the drive tires: Did you purchase new or were retreads an option for this use case?
I use caps on every position except the steer. My favorite is the Michelin XDY for my applications.

They made the DM that late? Wow!
Did they make the R model that long too?
The DM was built up till sometime around 2005 I believe. The R model didn’t last that long but I don’t know when they stopped building it. The DM and R are the exact same cabs only the DM is offset on the frame like a U model.

Yes I believe they do. I get them from my local Michelin distributor. I believe Michelin, Bandag and Goodyear are the big 3 retread companies here.
I worked for a company with a fleet of Volvo coaches and they used Michelin exclusively. Having spare sets of wheels to swap on when needed was cost effective and also a requirement of some of the contracts we had.

If you can get a second set of rims for a sensible price it may work for you.

Long production run.

Ran in our Buffalo Days parade this morning, we had a fantastic turnout and beautiful weather for it

I don't see a grille over the radiator / condenser or is that a screen? Are you not worried about rocks or debris or is this normal for a truck of this size?

There’s a mesh screen that’s attached to the cooling package but there’s nothing in the hole in the hood. Pretty common for Macks. It mainly depends how it was ordered

Any thought to putting a phone # or website on the truck? Maybe you are in a small enough town that people know how to get in touch with you.

I have that same Tonka wheel loader but don’t remember mine having the black guard over the handle to control the bucket. I remember getting my finger stuck in the black engine grille when I was supposed to be going to sleep. My dad had to cut the thing apart to get my finger out. My 4 year old son plays with it now.

Had a new set of Ironman steer tires put on this morning and moved the old Goodyears to the pusher axle. These are 425/65R22.5 for those wondering. Ran $625/tire installed. Local ready mix uses them on the mixers and loves them.

The gentleman doing them is a really good tire guy that does mainly truck and ag tires out of his old Chevy and converted horse trailer. Really neat setup. He said he does 500-600 tractor tire repairs a year all by himself.

My town is only a little over a thousand people. Everyone recognizes the truck here, plus I’m busy enough now I’m not even advertising anymore. I wasn’t going to do this parade but the grandparents came down to watch it from quite a distance away and wasn’t going to let them down.

For those of you following along with my oil analysis issues, we are finally getting to the bottom of it. Got it in the shop on Monday, had UV dye added to coolant and went for a test drive. After returning they pulled the pan and pressurized the cooling system to 15psi and found the #3 liner seal leaking. I'm going with all genuine Mack parts and we will be doing a full inframe overhaul along with two reman heads as well. I hope for another 26,000 hours out of this engine. Around $24,000 later I'll be back running again.
