Dumb questions about anti-seize lube

I always put a dab on my pinky, then do the threads. All you need is a "line" as it will coat 360* as you thread it in.

Guess I'll stop putting it on my skin, after this thread, though.
 
I apply the antisieze to all the spark plug theads except the first one or two. Wear nitrile or other gloves if you don't want the stuff on your hands. Plus wearing these gloves keeps your hands clean during the whole job.

Some manuf's suggest reducing the torque if antisieze is used on the plug threads. Subaru for example says reduce the torque by 1/3 on spark plugs if antisieze is used.

I can't understand all this angst over letting a little anti-seize touch your skin. I skimmed through a few MSDS sheets and find little that alarms me. The hazardous ingredients are carbon black, nickel powder, zinc oxide, aluminum powder, and copper powder. None of these is carcinogenic to humans in low doses. Probably no more hazardous that grease and oil.

I imagine the warnings are aimed for people who are in prolonged contact with the compound, such as in the manufacturing plant.

If you wear gloves for grease and oil, then you should probably wear them for anti-seize also.
 
I've used the same Champion Anti-Seize as Paulo57509 does. Had the same bottle for I don't know how many years. Hope it works well on aluminum heads like my Civic with the +4's... Cheap and effective.

It also works very well for the thumbscrews used to tighten survey tripod legs; we've had problems at work with "false clamping", that is, it will feel tight when in fact the thumbscrew is not so. Applying this on the threads cures said problem.
 
I buy the toothpaste tube of anti seize, and use the tube itself to apply the grease.

You just want a little bit on the threads, get it all the way around.

Only remove and install plugs when the motor is stone cold (sitting overnight).
