4157 has been superseded by 4114, a 14 volt bulb.

This may be old news to most of you who drive a '99-03 Chevy or GMC truck or SUV, but I just found out.

Sylvania 4157LL DRL bulbs have been burning out more frequently, so I went shopping for a different brand. The online catalogs and catalogs in stores call for 4114, but I never knew that because I always just looked at the owner's manual. The TSB below verifies the change.

This bulletin is to announce availability of new DRL bulb part number.

A new 14 volt DRL bulb, P/N 15199562 (trade bulb #4114K), is now available for use whenever a DRL lamp bulb on the above listed vehicles requires replacement. This more robust, higher voltage DRL bulb replaces P/N 1999482 (trade bulb #4157K). These bulbs should be replaced in pairs for customer satisfaction.

Interesting. I still have both OE DRLs on my 98 S-10. In fact, only one bulb has burned out, a flasher.
Ive often wondered hiw it has lasted so long. I wonder if they were always designed with a 14V bulb...

I wanted to add this.

The 5702KA bulb was specced by GM to solve the problem of short bulb life with their high alternator regulator voltage settings. Much longer lifespan than a 4157KA, but with same optical and photometric specs. Well worth paying the GM-parts price.
