Driving car thru emission state, ex Dallas Tx

Chill out peoples, I understand and respect each and every one opinon. So try to respect my opinion also, this car aint for for take my kids to soccer game, or take my grand kids to mac donald. drive like grand to doctor appoiment.This is my car I do wat ever I want, if something happent, its my responsiblity to deal with it right? not u. so some yall have NO RIGHT to tell me, i have to do this do that to my OWN car, for the sake of the " earth ". I just make this topic for your opinion to drive to state that emission law. Nothing about wat I did and have to do to my OWN Cars. So pls just chill and grap a cold one. TOPIC CLOSED !

You seem to be missing the point. First as has been pointed out you are breaking a federal law and admitting to it on a public forum. That right there isn't the brightest thing to do!

Second - it's not just about you and what you want to do - you are polluting the air for all the people around you to breath. Now granted your one vehicle may not kill everyone off - but by your own admission "everyone" in your area is doing it!
So instead of getting a cold one - you need to grow up and be responsible.
Sorry if this sounds harsh but after all you did ask for it!

quite a long time ago 15-20 years, a person working for the EPA told me that any officer can NOT enforce emission things unless the state law makers pass laws that gives the officer the power to do so. PLEASE NOTE that was a LONG time ago. but the idea may still hold

I hear you, but I just love the way people try to justify their actions!

So what if someone in your area doesn't care about the laws against theft and doesn't care what you think about that law - comes along and steals your car? Would you still feel the same?
Do you teach your kids to obey only the laws that they like or makes sense to them?

well if my state care about emission, they should have emission testing law thing, when ever u take your car in for inspect. My state just dont care. And many other state in the south, just dont care. Why should I ? if my state start haven emission stuff testing inspection like in dallas or cali, then I sell the car and buy a new car, and dont worried about failing inspection thing. Until then I still driving wat im driving ^^

Most likely you won't get in any trouble if you're obeying the law otherwise. Technically though, you could get a huge fine. I've only ever heard of that happening with modified diesel pickups in CA.

You can get a universal cat for $60. Slap it in there and see how little it affects your performance.

I agree with both of u, thx for being stray up and i read your message without having that " mad, hate " feeling toward me ^^ like other here. Yub I alway wear my seatbell, obey the speed limit, and most of the time, I roll both of my window down when drove by the cop ^^, my tint is dark. All my light are working order, no light is go out. and if the cop drive by me, i just shift early like at 2k rpm so their is no sound at all, on the highway my car pretty quiet with long tube header with Y pipe with magnaflow. I can alway take off the T-TOP off and let the sun shine thru my car, event with my tint window up, u can see clearly inside the car lol.

They're just usually too busy handling calls to pull over a loud car that's otherwise being driven in a sane and safe manner.

But if you are cruising around the West End or Deep Ellum, they might pull you over. "Probable Cause" to look for warrants, intoxicated driver, weapons or drugs.

You base all of Ca. on one fix it ticket? I've lived in Ca. for the better part of 60 years and haven't had a ticket since 1991 (it was speeding, and since I was going over the limit I paid the fees and went to traffic school).

I have friends/relatives that have horror stories from other states, Arizona being high on the list. I on the other hand go to Arizona at least 2 - 3 times a year for the last 20 years and haven't been stopped once by either state police or local Phoenix or Yuma police.

Edit: Back in the 80's I was driving through Indiana, I think it was just outside of Gary. They had a "surprise" vehicle and driver inspection. I had to show all my papers (license, insurance, registration) and they tested my vehicle for horn, windshield wipers, all lights, and listened to exhaust and inspected all 4 tires.
I got "let off" with a verbal warning that my right front tire was "borderline" and should be replaced immediately. When I got home I went to my local tire dealer and asked him to check it. He said I had 5/32 tread left and was good for many more miles!
That sounds a little more "gestapo" than anything I've ever encountered in Ca. (No offense to anyone that lives in Indiana.)

A "fix-it" ticket for Official state documents in the official state prescribed location.

I base it on the fact that I had to stand with my hands on the hood of the squad car because I couldn't provide him with a document that satisfied his request for registration while he searched my car without my consent. (which I would have given him as soon as his supervisor showed up, but he should have asked)

I didn't pay the ticket. Last time the TX DPS checked me, (annual recertification) I still did not have a warrant.

Now that you've advertised that a T56 Camaro from Jacksonville MS is coming, I suspect you are already on the Look-For-list, when you cross into TX.

Right I get it - you aren't happy about your experience, but you missed the point! You are talking about ONE incident and labeling the whole state! It would be like me saying that every cop in the state of Indiana was out to get me!

There are bad police everywhere. But don't judge the whole state by one of them. Ca like Texas is a huge state.

I see your point. But it's not just me. Any modification or some non-modfications (fellow 6 driver's OEM stock tailights) are subject to rather draconian enforcement. Most car forums are littered with Californians who have had to defend in court their mild and otherwise legal modifications. (C.A.R.B. Certified parts, OEM approved handling kits ie: TRD, Mazdaspeed, Nismo...etc...)

But I do wonder what that CHP officer does with all the DOD stickers from NS San Diego, Camp Pendleton and Ft Irwin...

While I don't especially like some of the comments you made later in this thread, I can tell you that the chances of your being stopped and hassled or fined for a missing cat are less than your chances of being hit by a falling meteorite.
If you don't get on it, it won't be loud, so keep that in mind.
If you don't attract attention, the forces of law and order aren't going to bother you.
If you get a non-criminal (civil vs misdemeanor) citation in TX, or any other state, you can safely ignore it.
Several very holy members commented on your social irresponsibility in removing the cat from your car, but those who own pre OBD II cars would not likely even know that they are driving on a failed cat, which is no better than no cat at all.

Exactly! And my 95 Aerostar which is OBD1 passes the emissions test every 2 years with no problems! I've had the vehicle since 1997 when it had 30K miles on it. This is in Ca on a dyno test at two different speeds tested for CO, HC and Nox.

Edit: Speaking strictly for myself - it's not about being "holier than thou" it's about doing the right thing. Why some people think they are above the law is beyond me!
