Drive belt for Craftsman self propelled mower

My neighbor stopped by to borrow my mower the other day. She mentioned her mower broke, and she wants to finish up the job. I let her use mine, and offered to take a look at her mower since I know she is in a rough spot currently (going through a divorce). Well, her mower is a 6.5hp Craftsman self propelled front wheel drive single speed. I found out that it broke the front wheel drive belt, and it looks easy enough to replace. My problem is I can't seem to locate a replacement. Can anybody help out? Thanks!

Do you have the old belt or is it completely gone? If you have it get the measurements off it.

Or, just take all the model numbers etc into Sears (or sears.com) they should be able to order it for you.

The old belt is gone. I walked around her yard looking for it, but didn't see it (she probably mulched it with my mower).

So what model # is the Craftsman mower? Sears.com has parts lists for just about everything they have sold.

I needed one for a customer on a Sunday afternoon when nothing (mower wise) was open. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a belt from them. The number on it is 310. Most Ace hardware stores have a rack of belts sorted by numbers. It's a little tight, but works just fine. Might be cheaper than the factory one...definitely faster. To put it on, take the blade, blade mount and belt cover off the bottom of the engine. Put the belt onto the pulley. Take a 9/16 wrench, put it on the nut that holds the top pulley down. Turn the pulley while prying the belt onto it with a screwdriver. When working under the mower, remember to remove the spark plug and turn the mower on it's side with the muffler UP. It it's not a Tecumseh motor, clamp off the gas line and run the mower until it's out of gas before you turn it on it's side. Yee Haw!
