A week ago, my friend installed Castrol Syntec in his Mazda 6, ran the oil for 3 hundred miles, and felt like he hated the oil, so he drains it, pours it back into the 5 qt jug and returned it at Advance Auto where he purchased it. He told them he wasn't happy with the product and they took it back. LOL

Then he buys M1 and puts that back in. Should have stuck with the Syntec from what I've been reading lately, huh?

It sounds like the guy returned the *actual used oil* for a *refund* -- and that "he wasn't happy with the product," which suggests that he told the clerk he'd used it.

If that's what actually happened, okay, but if not, don't be surprised if everyone reads it that way.

he sounds like the type of a guy that reads the label "100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back" use it, then return it. Frank, the auto-rx, guy dreads these type of customers I bet.

I'm sure the retail staff just wanted to get rid of the guy and were laughing at him later. In a word: lame.

Not to sustain this conversation (since I think we've determined that he didn't return it for money back), but I want to add my $0.02

I've found everything from brake pads to ball joints sitting on the shelf at Autozone, having been returned as undamaged, and yet are very obviously shot. Some of the stellar employees there will accept returns and not even check the darn box. Which means, not only do I check the boxes when I get "undamaged" returns, but I also have to check every box when I sell something to the customer.

I bought a 5-quart jug of M1 at Walmart a while back, and when I attempted to use it, I couldn't get the cap off. After using a set of pipe pliers, it came off and I found the foil seal having a burnt, brittle look to it and some of it was missing. Rather than risk pouring some charred bits of foil into my engine, I capped it and headed off to WalMart. After calling the store manager to inspect the product I was attempting to return, they finally let me exchange it for an unmolested jug. I don't even want to know how it got that way even though the oil looked normal.
