The DPMS Sportacle Model AR style tactical rifle in .223/5.56 is available here at Academy Sports for $499 and I just saw an add for the same price for a DPMS Oracle at a local gun shop.

Seems so inexpansive. Is this brand alright?

Thanks!

They are decent. My favorite is black forge weaponry out of Orlando, Florida. They offer a very good rifle kit and an affordable lower receiver.

Going this route you can assemble a very nice rifle for 5-600$. Black Forge is also great to work with if you want to customize your rifle kit. Prices are outstanding as is build quality/reliability.

A friend of mine has a .22LR semi and a .223 straight pull from these guys with some trick bits like stocks, grips, heavy fluted bull barrels etc etc, and they're beautifully made bits of kit.
Afraid I can't comment on the DPMS maybe you could try one out?

It is considered low - low- low end in the quality AR market. It will work fine and the Major problem with ARs seems to be not many people own only one AR.

I am up to 8 ARs now, I had to stop going to my friend's store.

There website lists an AR style gun in .458 Lott. Is this for people that think they might get attacked by an elephant?

.458 SOCOM is a good round for pig hunting, especially from a helicopter. Supposedly they also like using it for CQB, at least you know the dude you are shooting will drop after one round.

I kinda want to build one in 6.8 SPC and one in .300 AAC to look cool on the playground.

Dunno about 5.56's but my DPMS .308 is awesome.

It's a decent entry level piece, but a few higher quality options come to mind. S&W's lower end model is a little better than the Oracle, and PSA's Premium uppers can't be beat value wise with FN made 4150 chrome lined mil-spec steel barrels.

Are those straight pull ARs selling well in the UK? What is the mag limitation? I didn't know you could own a semi-auto 22LR over there.

I don't see any of their rifles available in .458 Lott. They make one in .458 SOCOM, which was designed for military members to put down bad guys. The .458 Lott would not work on an AR platform. It is more powerful than a .458 Winchester and is used in bolt action hunting rifles. Not a bad choice if you get attacked by an elephant with a tooth ache!

I would HIGHLY recommend that you spend the extra $50 and get a Ruger AR-556, Smith & Wesson Sport, or PSA Premium rifle.

The Ruger AR-556 is the best out of the box budget AR on the market. The PSA Premium (premium, not freedom or PTAC) is the best piece it together yourself budget AR on the market.

Absolutely. The quality of a DPMS is no better or worse than any of the other popular brands of AR-15 on the market today. Most all of these manufacturers use parts that are outsourced by just a few companies who supply the entire industry. It's a bit like arguing which brand of gas is "better", when it all comes out of the same pipe.

Just buy the lower and slap a better upper on it. AR lowers matter very little, they are just for hanging the parts that matter on.

For $1300 you could slap a LaRue upper and trigger on that DPMS lower and have a good rifle.
