Down with low flow shower heads!

I have been using a low-flow showerhead for a long time...I'd say 15+ years; it's a high-pressure, low-volume (a bit less than 2gpm, by my measurement) one from Resource Conservation, Inc. Hands-down, it's the best I have ever used.

It passes a test many higher-flow showerheads fail utterly: rinsing shampoo out of my wife's knee-length hair.

One thing many people overlook: many people in the Northeast (including my mother and myself) have wells! Yes, I DO want to conserve water!

Not all WaterPik showerheads stink. I purchased a WaterPik RPB-173 "drenching rain" showerhead last year. It's a 2.5 gpm model. The wife and I really like it since it soaks us quickly in what feels like a lot of water. We don't feel a need for more water, and it's a time-saver rinsing everything off quickly. It was $30, and worth it for us. I spent some time researching reviews, and settled on this one since it was well-reviewed and inexpensive.

So, one can indeed have a low-flow showerhead that works decently.

We are a spoiled people and obsessed with this shower stuff and all. Mercy sakes guys. Its only a shower. I think some of us would be in therapy if we couldn't take a shower twice a day. Yep its the important things in life.........................like the Fram thingie.....

LOL! Can't help thinking about the Seinfeld episode "The Shower Head". Good show, Nick!

Let the desert folk and those who have to worry about a dry well deal with the wimpy shower heads.

I love my well. Provides water for the house without low flow anything and water to the horses who drink more water combined than I use daily.

Hope for your sake it doesn't go dry. I was told that if mine does, it will run me about $35,000 to get another one.

i have a bathroom with low water pressure (alot of limestone in my are hence lime) and i believe the pipe is partially clogged. i tried numerous expensive shower heads and none worked well. i finally went to walmart, found a super small head that said low water pressure, it works well in there pressure wise, and it was like $6.

I'm really spoiled by my high water pressure and ~60 year old shower head. Whenever I travel, I always end up taking incredibly long showers, trying to get the soap off my skin and out of my hair.

Sure, greenie, spend two hours under a low flow or 10 minutes under a standard shower.

So our guest (ie not master) bathroom has had the same interbath shower head for about, oooh, 15 years now. IT's old, clogged and generally lackluster. So yesterday I head over to bed bath and beyond and pick up a nice $50 waterpik head. And I step into the shower expecting a nice river of water. Instead I get what basically amounts to a "trickle" of water. And then I realize, oh those pesky low flow showerhead limits of 2.5gpm. 2.5gpm! It's so ridiculously low. Well, fortunately 10 minutes of tinkering later the flow restrictor plate is gone, and the outlet hole is enlargened from a half moon to a full one. And so much better now, I feel like I'm not standing under a drizzle. Who's bright idea were low flow showerheads anyway? :Soaking a shower head in calcium remover will unclog it and you can go back to annoying green weenies.

You sound so bitter. There's nothing wrong with wanting to take a shower with a decent amount of water pressure and flow. I've used low flow shower heads that were 1.6 and 1.9gpm, they were miserable. Why bother even using warm/hot water to shower while were at it? The cold stuff works just as well, but I guess we're all just spoiled by dang water heaters!

That's just dishonest. Again: the low-flow showerhead I use is far and away the best I have ever used.

Maybe it really is time to start making showerheads tamper-proof (say, brazing the whole thing together and making the restrictor inaccessible).

That looks very similar to mine. It's a hi-pressure/low-volume sprayer with about a dozen tiny spray holes inside the showerhead, right?

Nope, not gonna fall for that one. We have a well and septic system. It matters not how much water I use. I can pump 40,000 gallons per day and the water level will remain unchanged.

By the way, my shower has 6 shower heads, is powered by a 3 stage, 2HP Goulds pump, a high flow dual media softener and 2cu/ft carbon tank. And, my water heater is an 80 gallon hybrid unit, which also airconditions my garage.

Dude, that setup is epic!!

Plenty of water where I live and since I pay for it I'll use it as I please. I gutted the shower heads years ago to get that mega blast. Enjoy your trickle shower and feel good about saving the planet. The lawn sprinklers run three times a week also.

Ha ha,

You are forgetting the evolutionary aspect of human cleanliness. Up until 130 years ago, a shower was an unheard of thing. The bath tub existed for centuries, however, as you travel back in time, it (a bath) was a difficult affair. Remember, running water is a huge factor in health and well being.

So, naturally, we humans LOVE our showers. They are comparatively new, and very effective.
