Just a friendly reminder, climb out from under the hood once in awhile and check your PSI, I got fresh rubber on the truck a few weeks ago and as soon as it got home i checked the PSI, it was about 1-2 PSI off per tire, rechecked cold in the am, and adjusted accordingly. temps outside were in the 90's with heat index over 110' now were in the 80's so i rechecked today, every tire was off almost identicaly 3psi low..

So i just felt like a friendly neighborhood reminder, check your PSI often !

With all those tire pressure monitoring systems and such, you never need to check your tire pressure any more...or at least that's what most people would believe, IMO.

I have TPMS but I don't think it throws a flag until the tire's down to 4 PSI or some nonsense. Exaggerating but it's no substitute for checking PSI.

Yeah, you need to account for temperature. It makes quite a difference. I read an article recently that went on and on about "If you've driven more than 3 miles, add xxx PSI. If it's more than 90F or the car has been parked in the sun, add xxx PSI. If the car has been in the shade for xxx minutes, subtract xxx PSI. Yada yada booga booga, nobody really follows this complicated advice, olly olly oxen free."

Checked all mine this morning before the sun came out, everything was sitting at around 30-31 PSI, pumped them all up to 36 and everything feels better now!

Or how about your kPa?

it was a evil plot to get you to open and read my thread.. it worked ! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.. but no seriously, have you checked your tires lately ?

Yeah, the TPMS light is just another "idiot gauge" that offers no real information.

Hello, If you don't check your tire pressure, you're a bad person. I was in Australia and the car I rented had a sticker which listed tire pressures in "kg/paskals X newton meters", or some darn thing. A kid at a gas station said, "We run 'em at 36". Kira

I read that TPMS trips a warning when tires are 20% below recomended pressure. They should not be used as an excuise for not doing tire inspection & pressure checks. Same goes for the engine oil pressure light. Ha

I found this out when I took my car to be smog checked. I was asked if I had checked my tires recently for the correct PSI. I thought he was joking, but was dead serious. I had to promise him to check it in the next 7 days, and they were all fine.

Only when you have your vehicle serviced at any shop. Consumers can not be forced to check tire pressure, or oil level or anything else in the car.

"Automotive service providers must meet the regulation’s following requirements:
Check and inflate each vehicle’s tires to the recommended tire pressure rating, with air or nitrogen, as appropriate, at the time of performing any automotive maintenance or repair service
."

It depends on the car. In my Corvette, the driver information center shows the exact tire pressure of each individual tire, so it's just as good for checking tire pressure as a gauge. Actually, it's better, because I can check all four tire pressures every single time I drive the car. And there have been a few times where I've found one tire to be 3-4 psi less than the rest all of a sudden, and then inspected it and found a nail in it.

As mentioned above, not all systems are the same. My car displays individual pressures also and they are deadly accurate. I also need no reprogramming or such when wheels are moved, the system quickly resets itself to the correct positions!

Any modern TPMS should be capable of monitoring both pressure and temperature (air temperature inside the tire, at least) in real time. It's only the question of the consumer seeing added value in giving this information that keeps OEs from giving all the information to the driver. The fact that the SRT8 gives a greater degree of information speaks to the typical buyer being more interested in maintenance and performance than most people. I think we can all agree that BITOG-ers in general aren't exactly 'average' automotive consumers as well...

What is the approximate range of temps you see cold to hot?

The system you have sounds great, but for the expense and complications, I would avoid it as long as possible.
But because so many lame-oids drive with too low pressure, maybe it is a good thing to help save tire life and fuel.

I've seen some TPMS that are EXTREMELY picky....lol. But yea, the fact is though, the majority of "new car" owners do not "RTFM" (google that....lol....) - so they could care less about that little "TPMS" light (typically a damaged sensor...) or that "flat tire" icon with the ! inside it....

I've seen some cars that will emit if the tires are even 2 psi "off" - but they do not "emit" if the PSI is "over"

I think the primary intention of the "idiot light" was to let you know if you have more PSI loss in one tire, more than another...

Cause as reporter by another poster, my 08 Kia had the idiot light, I never ever saw it light up....but I happened to pick up a nail, checked all the PSI, all but one tower was low...filled it up, and checked the surface, sure enough it got a nail in it.

Generally speaking my tire pressures will go up by about 3-4 psi from when the tires are cold to when they are fully warmed up.

This is another thing I like about the TPMS, it allows me to check the tire pressures on the go, at highway speeds. I wish my Civic had this system, the US models of the EX got it, but for some reason they felt us Canadians didn't need it.
