Done to death

@SC Maintenance @rstsco @Plumb Bob

— Just did an oil and filter change at 2,000 mi. OCI.

— If my oil is not bought within a few days of the job, I won't use it.

— I fell under the influence of some YouTube guys and decided that Honda OEM filters that were Made in Japan were "the good ones," so I bought every one I could find. There will be unused filters in my house long after I am dead.

— My idea of a good time is watching video after video of some guy cutting open oil filters and discussing differences between one and another that are so minuscule that my psychoanalyst wants me to start coming in twice a week instead of once a week.

Oil change on rental car.

Pouring new oil while draining to flush that last bit out.

120 mile oil change because its been a year.

I will say that only using oil bought within a few days of the job is a new one. You realize that oil had been in the ground thousands to millions of years - dependant on your beliefs?

To do less would be reckless and derelict.

But does this technique work?

You can't sell that line around here, bub.

This may be your masterpiece, your Mona Lisa. I commend you, sir.

Oh, none of those were mine. I thought I was nuts until I started hanging around here. Well, still nuts, but clearly there are levels.

Was this the first, second, or standard OCI?

Tough one, as many oils specify up to five years shelf life. How will you ever know who old it really is?

Although I've thought long and hard about trying to score some Made in Japan -003 filters, their specs are substandard (generalization by me) compared to some of the better-made aftermarket filters such as those made by PGI. I have 10 Pentius PLXL7317s, but recently bought 12 Carquest Premium 84356 (Made in Vietnam) and will be switching to the CQ the next OCI and use the Pentius's on my daughter's cars. Just saying.

In a win for you and your psychoanalyst, offer to change their oil in exchange for the second session each week. Queue up some YT videos to watch together so they "better understand" why it's so important. They could be driving a car with the OLM down to 5%, having almost 10k miles on their current OCI. You would be saving them from themselves.

You mean like this Bozo did when switching from Amsoil Signature Series to HPL Premium Plus PCMO? Can you imagine how OCD a person must be to "waste" a brand new quart of HPL?

Rumor has it, and if I remember correctly, I also flushed a quart of Amsoil Signature Series through on the first OCI at 494 miles to help get the OEM oil out of the drain pan, also. At least the Amsoil cost less.

95,000 mi. I happened to be in the neighborhood of my guy with a lift, so I figured what the hell.

A man's has got to know his limitations. I buy it "new." Until I can find a date code to read, that's the best I can do.

I draw strict lines. OEM parts only.

He has so much of my money that he can afford to lease a land yacht from Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills. They worry about his oil for him. No extra charge for the cappuccino and foot massage.

Calling him a Bozo for switching top tier oil was unnecessary.

In the comments, he explained the reason for the switch. It’s due to the Amsoil oil filter failure he found after cutting open it. Now I would call him a Bozo for that fact.
