Not sure how a quart or more of oil could remain. A quart is a lot of oil Could you explain further?

I am not sure what you mean by that. Our Cessna gets fresh oil 5 times a year

I mean there are no oil change for the P&WC 206 and 207 engines. You add oil and change the filter every 1000 hours.

We must be brothers from other mothers! Definitely an OilChangeDelutional + boutique oil fan user here. I too am blessed with an understanding... very tolerant wife of 48 years. That part I can not explain.

Only for a chip light. Our company's engine contract does not require oil analysis. Previous company has 200FH sampling requirements.

I'm not OCD about very many things and a few ounces of oil remaining in my engine is nowhere on my Radar .

Some of us may have experiemented with shop vac and various filtered-air-blowing schemes to try to get more oil out of the engine.


Thankfully, not me. No sir, no way. I am definitely NOT oil obsessed. I can quit any time I want to.

If it bothers you, just consider that the oil remaining in the engine galleries is like the fluid priming a pump. If you got it all out, you'd have the mother of all dry starts.

Dry starts NO GOOD.
I have been doing oil changes with those pumps thru the dip stick tube with absolutely ZERO issues since the early 1990s. I got the idea from older mechanics at the plant site I worked at. They were the Lubrication Team I would get assigned to when short handed. I thought it was a so neat, time effective and trouble free way they would change oil in bearing housings on the run to equipment that had to remain online with hand held pumps the engineers provided them with. We would change the oils in gearboxes etc.... and then package up and bring samples to our on site lab for our chemists or send off any they felt needed more substantial testing.

Such a lightweight topic! What about the Infidels that siphon through the dipstick, never pull the drain plug to get the last few drops of old oil out, and only change the filter every other OCI! Asking for a friend…….

Did this on my L84 once - mainly out of curiosity when folks drip forever (comes out instantly) and building confidence in my new extraction pump …

Some people do some pretty stupid things IMO to try and get every last drop of oil out. I heard of people running the engine with the drain plug out trying to get those last couple of ounces out. IMO you can kill an engine with kindness or overthinking things too.

Have you heard of the @Patman flush?

I've only done this when changing from oil brand/product line to another to (in my mind) help keep the mixing of the old to new as minimal as possible. When I switched from Amsoil Signature Series to HPL Premium Plus PCMO, I even shot this short video to see what I could see (slightly more exciting than watching paint dry). Basically, I saw a quart of HPL being wasted. You can hear, and see the effects, as the wind picks up as the quart flows straight through from the fill to drain holes. Warning: do not watch with sound on and a full bladder!

I no longer worry about the last drop when not switching brand/product line, as my worry has shifted in my old age as to whether I'll be able to get up off the ground after changing the oil and filter.

OMG so much good oil just wasted!

Other is what went from fill hole to drain
(next to nothing left behind on a cold drain)
