Doh! 2005 Suburu outback no spin on tranny filter

Like an idgit I ordered 2 spin on tranny filters from Amazon. I should of taken a look underneath. Looks like they stopped using spin on filters in 2005 for my model. Just a big bolt there where the spin on were in previous models. I wonder if there's a conversion kit to add one back in?

Yeah, it does look like it might be possible to add one there where there used to be one on previous model years.

Try unbolting it. You can most likely just take the bolt off and screw on a filter.

I would check the manual or call the dealer.

If there is no longer a pump there, installing a filter would serve no purpose. Possible that they relocated the filter? Seems odd that you can order a spin-on filter for that model if the trans no longer has one.

Interesting, the ex-wife's 2005 Legacy wagon, which is very closely related to the Outback, does have the filter there. Do you have the 4-speed or the 5-speed auto?
