Does Where Oil Filters are Made Matter?

I can't speak to the specific Mexican made Amsoil filter because I've not seen one cut open. Otoh, I have seen examples of other filters that had been made in US, moved to Mexico and quality suffered. Some Bosch Premium 3323 as well as 'some' Wix. Also personally seen where the Gonher made Nissan OEM has an adbv defect that can allow oil bypass.

That said, I'm not going to condemn the Amsoil filter or any filter without seeing it. Could be just fine, just a different coo.

The FleetGuards for my truck are made in Mexico and have been for long time. My Ram truck was also made in Mexico. They may turn the switch off when they all get over here.

This is the same line of thinking that applies to *anything* these days. It's not about where it is made, it's about the QA/QC process and how the manufacturer / purchaser directs the manufacturing quality of the part being built...

This 100%. For example, we're all typing these replies on devices made in China. Quality products can be made anywhere if the correct people & processes are in place.

Buy an oil filter cutter, open both, compare them, post pictures and your analysis then let us know. Explaining your background and expertise on oil filters would be helpful as well.

EAO17 was $14.80. The 24 shouldn't cost so much being made in Mexico. Only reason I can see a reason for costing more is it being larger and probably not a big production item, but it's still a high price.

This is a dangerous point. If they cut prices when moving the factory customers would assume something was "wrong", otherwise why would they discount a premium product? They studied the market and figured losing a few customers while still charging full price nets them more profit than pleasing everybody.

OT, when I was 19 I mowed lawns all summer for these rich dudes. I was swamped with work TBH. So when prospective customers wanted a quote I gave them the "FU" price and they bit because I must have been worth it.

I recently placed an order for my 2021 Silverado's oil change. Amsoil SS 0W20 and the EAO17 oil filter. While I was at it, I decided to order a couple EAO24s for my 565 big block. Seeing as Champion makes the filters for Fram's Endurance and Amsoil, I figured the filters would all be made in America, but apparently not. The EAO17 for my truck is made in the USA, but the filters for my big block are made in Mexico. There aren't any apparent differences between the American made EAO17 and the Mexican EAO24, but it raises the question of quality to me.

The EAO24s costed $23.25 each with the PC subscription, which is a rather high price for a product that was made out of country to save money on production. I'm on the fence about returning them or using them.

Short version, you're not buying a country of origin, you're buying a name brand, or lack of same. Having worked for several global Fortune 1000 aerospace firms, I can assure you that a filter made by a Fortune 1000 firm in their overseas plant will meet the same engineering and quality standards as one made in the U.S. Corporate standards and ISO quality audit standards help ensure that. The wages may be lower overseas, but the quality is largely unchanged. Federal Mogul makes great bearings in their Romanian plant, Wix makes great filters in their Polish plant. The problem is when one buys a Chinese product engineered, manufactured and sold by a Chinese firm, as opposed to a western firm. Then you're literally getting a 100% Chinese product -- there's nothing western or Fortune 1000 about it -- which often is problematic.

They're not making filters in Mexico to save money for you. They are increasing their margin.

Denso has a factory in Mexico. They make some of Mazdas factory filters there, and perhaps some other MFG's as well.

That's not even a good factor to use. You hear about workers making "X" dollars per day and it sounds like below-poverty amounts but without knowing the cost of living there, that wage could be comfortably middle-class there or something.

Got me there lol. If not just for some brand loyalty, I was more interested in the 99% at 20 micron rating because I need to put my big block back on the dyno for some more breaking in, so I wanted to catch any other wear metals I could.

I tried looking for their equivalent of the EAO24 on the fram website and there was none listed for the Fram endurance. Fram's website only went up to the Titanium and Ultra for what I was looking for

It's for my 79 Camaro that the 565 is going in. FS5/XG5 were the highest tier ones listed on the website. I was using a 90 3500 truck w/ 454 on the filter finder
