My assumptions were right. I went to my Amsoil Rep today and I picked up an SDF-80 Donaldson Endurance Oil Filter. It was made in Mexico. My Amsoil rep was shocked (He has a lot of American Flags hanging up in his store). I told him I hope Amsoil does not sell out on their regular filters. So I will be buying Fleetguard for my Heavy Duty applications. It is pretty interesting because these Endurance Filters by Donaldson are not cheap. mikeyoilnutt

what does it matter where something is made if it is a quality product

FWIW, the Donaldson Synteq filters I've bought have been US made, but they are also new/old stock

It matters to me becuase I try not to contribute to the trade deficit. There are high quality filters made here at the same price so I will help my economy out. Who knows the quality control anyway? Besides the filters should be dirt cheap(which they are not) because they are made in Mexico. mikeyoilnutt

To me, the words Mexico and China do not make you think of quality production of anything (yet).

Love the "(yet)", shades of made in Japan.

You have a serious problem trying to buy American. While some product may be assembled in the USA you can bet components came from off-shore. Hard to find anything all American made anymore.

This has me curious, what make of car/truck do you own/drive?

A guy was arguing with me on this issue a while back. He had a Dodge Ram. One day I was with a friend looking a DC vehicles and I noticed the Dodge 4x4 e.cab trucks all came from Mexico. When I told him this he called a liar and dug out his window sticker, made in Mexico.

There was a big stink with a state rep here in Michigan a few years back when she/he bought a SUV that was made in Mexico. She/he was almost tarred and feathered by the auto unions and newspapers over that and the car was gotten rid of. But I worked for the state at the time and 75% of our trucks were DC and 50% of those were built in Mexico. LOL

I own a 2000 Dodge Dakota that 85% of the was made here. Also The Nummi Plant in Freemont California builds Toyotas here. I wonder how many Mexican people that work in the plant for Donaldson use their products. You and I both know companies usually go south of the border for cheap labor and less enviormental regulations. By the way I would buy products abroad if people in other countries were give a fair piece of the pie. It is disappointing that when you are trying to buy products made in your own county to support the economy that people give you so much flack for it. mikeyoilnutt

I agree 100% I always will buy american if the choice is there. Even if it costs a few dollars more. I always bought crafsman tools because I thought they were made in America. Till I noticed my craftsman motorcycle jack and craftsman vise were made in china. Now I always check.
