I've heard many many members complain about the search. I quit even using it, although it's a very basic function of any website. I was looking for a medical post here that I KNOW exists, but somehow search can't find it. The set-up is so bad, it loads with a date range of newer than 1 week. Hello, week-old posts are still current and don't need to be searched. To add to the matter, the flood feature dis-allows doing a follow-up search after the original one surely fails. Memebers hear so much about how great the site is and how hard the moderators and admins work to keep it clean and so-forth....how about a lil effort to fix the search? As-is it returns a multitude of results from the same thread, regardless of the settings. It's been a long time that it's messed-up please!

Same here A-U.

Search doesn't work well at all...

Yes, the search function does work, it isn't great, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be imo. You just have to know how to use it properly.

Totally agree. I've never found a search engine that's part of bb forum software that works perfectly. VBulletin's search engine is pretty good but most are average. Other than the massive number of returns I've found this one to be fine. They all have their quirks and whatnot.

The biggest weakness is simply the repeated hits of the same thread. Just bad code. Say you do a search for Roachoil. And there is only two threads in the year with Roachoil, but every post has the word.....well it will find those threads and have a line for every post. Sheesh.

The search is fine, its only problem is returning more than one result for the same thread.

The keys:

Always make the search timeframe newer than 5 years,
make your search terms as concise as possible
Minimize common words that will hit too often.

Ok, so getting a page full of repeative results from a single thread or no matches at all and then not being able to search again means it's "fine"?

It's a basic feature of any website that is totally disfunctinal here. It seems like the knowledge/dedication to fix it is just not present. I suppose people have better things to do.

Yes, the search function is junk... *sqwauk* the search function is junk... *sqwauk* the search function is junk...

What medical post are you looking for? I'm offering to help you find it. Oh, and you're welcome for the three walk-through tutorials that I linked to. No problem.

It is certainly the worst I have seen but it is still functional. I still use it just about every day. Personally, I have more issues with the lack of a simple button to edit posts.
