Does oil pressure matter?

So long as it's > 0! When running Maxlife 5w30 in the N* I had 45# @ 45mph @ 45 degrees. Just changed to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and I get 45# @ 55mph @ 45 degrees. Also changed from M1-206 to HP-2006, adding another factor. Might the PP be flowing more freely providing better lubrication at lower pressure? (Think thumb on the end of a garden hose.) Knew a guy in 60's who ran Havoline 10 weight year round in his 283's with no problems. His oil pressure probably wasn't high. Thanks.

Your oil pump will pump the same volume of oil. The pennzoil must be thinner than your last oil so the same volume equals less pressure.

It has to be well above zero. I am sure there is a range of oil pressure in the specs for your engine. Your pressure sounds fine.

What is RPM at 45 and 55 mph?
What is pp oil pressure at 45 mph?

RPM is ~1500 and 1800+ @ 45 and 55. PP op @ 45 is 36-38#.

I'd guess there is about 2 cSt difference in these oils. Maxlife maybe 12.5 cSt, PP maybe 10.5, but you'd have to look them up.
