I thought I read somewhere that the new Caddy CTS was going to be sold down under and Holden was going to develop a new V12 for it out of two of the little 3.6's. Another car we won't get to buy here ....

About the fuel tank placement thing...I think it's a cultural hangover from the Pinto. We simply don't have cars bursting into flames left right and centre down here.

I find it strange that the Caddie is coming down here when Holden sell the Statesman quite effectively.

Of course this will be a niche vehicle. RWD big gas sucking V8 cars just aren't practical as daily drivers. I don't know the numbers, but it seems like half of the Mustangs sold are V6, which makes it a bit more practical for people who want the looks but don't care as much about pure performance.

My brother drives a new Statesman 6 litre V-8. He sees short term mileage of 40 litres per 100km (6MPG US) when climbing decent hills.

I stand corrected.The zeta came about because Opel discontinued the chassis that Holden was using.Does that mean Holden used an imported chassis or is Opel established down under?I guess as long as its not made in China I shouldnt bicth to much.

It's all GM, just different subsidiaries, so what's the difference?

Also, if Holden is going to use a Opel chassis design, they would tend to build it down under anyway if the volume justifies doing so.

Designed built by Holden Opel have nothing to do with it. They are the worldwide design center for GM rear drive chassis.
