Does anyone buy from Tire Rack anymore? It doesn't seem worth it......

Bought a number of sets from them. The issue is the install is a pain in the butt. Wish there was a good mobile installer here. Really negates the value beyond ease of choosing whatever you want without any issues surrounding fit/OEM size etc. that you get a lot of places. I order my 200tw track tires from various online vendors and also heat cycling isn't something the local places do. I actually used the TR road hazard warranty one time as well. Worked but again...pain. Had to have it repaired and submit a claim then get a check back. See no real value at this point for street tires. Can also order and have them shipped to your local Discount Tire.

Not anymore.

Not after they shipped me one out of two needed brake rotors.
Then failed to complete my order for a pair, or let me return the one rotor.

They walked away from me as a client, so I walk away from them.

Sad we had a prior decent relationship
Sounds like you ordered one and thought you bought a pair but they were sold individually?

I wish. That would have been an easy fix.

I ordered an individual left and right for company Suburban.

!00K on the WHEELS. The way Scott drives makes those Michies cry 😁.

And yeah, those wheels are THAT clean after 100K of use ;).
True! I got a little over 5K miles out of the Cup 2s on my street driven BMW E46. I replaced them at 3/32nds when the wear bars are 2/32nds so I might have been able to eeck out another 1K out of them. The E46 isn't big horsepower but it's always pulling lateral G's when it's being driven.

But compered to @TiGeo's eraser mode during his track driving, 5K is a lot!

Purchased my Continentals LX-25's from Tire Rack. On a scale of 10 the tires get a 9, Tire Rack a 3. Nothing but issues. They shipped my tires out of Miami area during a hurricane without protection. Two tires got lost when the shipping label got wet and blew away. Needless to say that it was a challenge to get things right. Tire Rack was not willing to ship new tires for 10 days, after they and FedEx conducted a trace, which didn't go well. In the end it took 21 days to get tires.

Thankfully I chose to have mounting done at Discount Tire. DT has smoothed out the overall experience.

Tire Rack = Never Again
That sounds like a Fedex problem. So typical of Fedex. The Michelin Super Sports I recently ordered from Tirerack arrived via On Trac just 24 hours after me hitting the return key for my order. Tires were shipped from their Reno warehouse and we live in California's Central Coast so it's not a short drive.

For years I was a DTD customer

Now with the merger/buyout or whatever happened 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lest set of 5 tires/wheels came from Trail Built Off-road in April’25

I'm fully aware of the fact that their use is completely different than mine, but OMG, that wheel/tire combo must weight 80 or 90 pounds! Looks good though.

And you recieved one and they wouldn't sort it out? Sounds like something in the story is missing.

Correct. Thats what I thought, but they got really weird on me.

It was around covid time when supply chains were tight, but still they made their problem my problem.

I've become a Walmart tire shopper. I just have them shipped to my house and mount them myself or my place of choice. DTD was my go to for many years too.

The huge thing that either most of you don’t know or understand is that Tire Rack does great tire testing and also they have a lot of customer reviews!
So whenever I buy tires, I wanna know exactly what I’m getting.
I prefer to support TIRE RACK since they are one of the few, I’ve found that spend the time and money to test and then give us the information along with real owners and their experience with a tire or tires.
If it wasn’t for Tire Rack, would we have any way of knowing what kind of quality and qualities of tires were buying?

I used to buy from TireRack often. I used my Harbor Freight tire changer and I had a static balancer at home. Also, back in the day you paid no sales tax. It's been a long time since I bought from them. I work on fewer cars and lately I've been buying tires from Facebook Marketplace or Costco.

I buy from Tirerack on a fairly regular basis. They have a warehouse here in the Twin Cities, and many folks don't realize how much tire distribution they do directly with shops. I usually get a $10 a tire discount for picking tires up instead of having them shipped.

I have a good relationship with an indy tire shop and haven't had any issues with getting tires mounted and balanced.

I do miss having DTD and Tirerack as competitors though. Bought 1 tire for a boat trailer via simple tire and won;t be going back there... (Ended up with an older tire that I would not have bought had I known the date code.)

They do. And will Road Force balance for free and do professional heat cycling on competition tires for a few extra $
Apparently the heat cycling isn't quite how it should be done. I got my current set for 2026 comp tires from Phil's Tire Service (PTS); they say that after the heat cycling they place them under blankets for 3 hours then box up and ship. TR just does the heat cycling. Apparently the blankets slow the cool down which is better...who knows.
