Well, to cap off my third thread on BITOG, here's my predicament. I just found this large screw on one of my tires. A set which was installed only three and a half weeks ago. And I've only covered less than a thousand miles on them. Based on what I can find online, this is technically repairable, but no reputable shop would want the liability based on placement.

Now here's the rub. I bought these tires from Tire Rack, as they had the best price. But I've seen mixed experiences when attempting to file a claim. Has anyone been successful?

Better yet, should I attempted to plug this? I splashed the puncture with soapy water and didn't see any bubbles, but I'll check the tire pressure to see if it drops.

Feel free to mock!

My friend had like four or five claims with TR within like a 2-year span; he had no issues with the process.

You can try to ask Discount Tires if you have one in the area. I don't know if their systems are merged yet, as 3 years ago they were not merged so the DT guy had to do a separate login into the TR system.

That sucks! That looks like roofing nail typically they are 1 1/4" long. One time I got a new set of tires about 2 weeks after ran over a plumb bob made a huge hole in the tire.

That is not pluggable by most tire manufacturer norms - too close to the edge. People of course will DIY that close but I doubt any shop will.

If they don't replace the tire post it up here and we will all shame them. My guess is they will.

So, the shop I went to repaired the tire.

And this wasn't some urban used tire shop, too. But a family-owned business that comes highly recommended. And they were near to me.

Why not Discount Tire? The nearest branch is 10 miles away with highway driving. Either I could risk driving on this puncture or pop on my temporary spare and be limited to 50 mph.

Whether or not this repair is sketchy, I don't know. Either way, I've started a claims process with Tire Rack.

Nothing sketchy here.

I had a similar issue with Tire Rack tire and had no issues with them sending a replacement via warranty.
