Just bought my wife a 2005 Dodge Stratus and it has the 4cyl (2.4 liter) engine which is made by mitsubishi i think, anyway I usually run havoline oil, but Im not sure If I should run 5w-30 or 10w-30? Ive never had a vehicle with a 4cyl before always run 10w-30 in my v8 engines.

We run 5w-30 M1 in our 97 plymouth breeze, and it is excellent. 5w-30 is the reccomended viscosity.

That said, if you werent aware of the viscosity, i suggest you read through the owner's manual thuroughly.

The oil will either be 5W-20 or 5W-30, 5W-20 oils are good oils that perform as good as most 5W-30s and offer cold start benefits.

I would use Havoline DS in whatever grade recommended and follow the book. Havoline is good oil that holds its grade so 5W-30 if it is recommended will be fine, 5W-20 if it is recommended will be fine, and if it is 5W-30 recommended 5W-30 will be fine and 10W-30 will probably be good enough in your climate.

The knock against 5W-30 oils was they break down and come out of grade, but the newer ones, particuarly the Havoline conventional oils do not seem to.

If you are sure that it's the Mitsubishi 2.4 liter engine, my g/f has an Eclipse with the 2.4 in it. I use Castrol GTX 10W-30 in it, just like everything else, and it has no problems. It's also over 150k miles.

If it is a coupe, it is very closely related to the Mitsubishi Eclipse and has the Mitsubishi 2.4L in it. If it is a sedan, it is a completely different platform and it has the Chrysler 2.4L in it, which is a variant on the 2.0L Neon engine.
