The Fiat 500 wasnt enough for them?
Some type of romance with the Mazda-sourced ATs from 4-cyl Foxbody 'Stangs of the late 80s and mid 90s (again, the 4-cyls.), meanin "American cars with foreign parts."

But the better question is: Is it really worse than a Chyrsler slushbox?
It might be better. Had a fiend with the 1989 Hyundai Excel. Tight feeling car! Now, granted, the trans's tend to fail at 60,000 miles on the early early Hyundais (you dont see them a lot) but it was great before that.
