Do you use a desktop computer?

Yep, desktop. I prefer lots of screen real estate, and even though I could do it with a laptop, I don't have a need to drag anything more than my phone around, so desktop it is.

I will tote a laptop if I'm going somewhere for more than a day or two however, I can't stand doing much more than reading a few things on a phone. If it requires input or typing I'd rather do it on a physical keyboard.

I still use a desktop computer at home, but not often. It’s a 2003-ish Mac G5 1.6 GHz tower, running OS X 10.4.11, so I can still run vintage Macintosh programs in classic mode. I have a scanner and Adobe CS2, as I do graphic design a bit. I also use it for the occasional Word document or spreadsheet.

I like desktop way better, laptop's ergonomics aren't as good unless you use external keyboard, mouse, and multiple monitors. It also is loud when running hot and it is not easy to attach another 4-6 SSD to it, and of course not enough cooling for a real GPU and CPU if you game.

To me a Chromebook + Desktop is ideal. Use the Chromebook to remote into the desktop for away and use the Chromebook directly for browsing only.

amd 5900x cpu
corsair crystal 570x case.
corsair hx1000i psu
msi rtx 3080 gaming z trio gpu
corsair dominator 32 gigs 3600mghz memory
noctua nh-d15 cpu cooler.
asus hero dark pro motherboard.
gigabyte aorus 1tb m.2 pcie nvme ssd.
windows 11.

i use desktop most of the time.

I have a HTPC with those specs except with a RTX 2080 and a midrange msi x570 mobo.
My 'battlestation' as spec'd:

AMD 5950X CPU
128GB Corsair Dominator RGB 3600MHz RAM
MSI RTX 3080Ti
2TB Samsung 980PRO C: drive
1TB Samsung 850EVO Personal drive
MSI X570 Creation motherboard
Corsair 5000**** (non-airflow)
Seasonic Prime Titanium 1000W
be quiet! 360mm AIO CPU cooler w/ included fans
Phanteks 120mm case fans
And a USB LG Blu-ray drive

It's my 5th Ryzen build and I've been obsessed with PC gaming and hardware I'd never ditch the desktop PC.

And I've got a MacBook Air M1 by my side too.

I use desktop only although I do have a laptop around somewhere. I can't use a smart phone as I find them impossible to use. I find them horribly designed with hidden buttons and small grey print I can't read without reading glasses.

Yes, I primarily use a desktop, wife and I have our personal home office and nice desks with two Mac mini's and 27 inch HP monitors.
Its a pleasure and our main computers.
For some fast stuff in the evening or whatever I have a M1 MacBook Air and my iPhone 13.
My wife has a Lenovo Yoga and iPhone 13 for fast stuff in the evening when we arent in our home office.

(My wife has another home office supplied by her company for her work which is a Dell Optiplex 5050, 2-27 inch Sceptre monitors and business phone )

Its such a pleasure working on a 27 inch screen and wouldnt be comfortable with less for long periods of time, any more than I would want to watch TV programming on anything less than a 65 inch screen.

I haven't used a desktop in years. Even when I retired 20 years ago everyone used laptops (word processing/spreadsheets). I used to build my own computers but laptops serve my needs now. Can carry from room to room and don't take up valuable space, no desk required.

'laptop' asa desk top since they were developed (early '80s).
Today I havea "early '11" MacBookPro that has the furthest OS upgrade it's capable of ('17 - '20). I like it as it has an
external disc slot (CD, DVD read/write) and lots of 'connection slots' (usb, firewire, ethernet, etc). New 'cuters don't have
much of these inorder to lower weight. Many use the net to access what these things do but I cut costs rather than have a
larger reoccuring (monthly) expense. These changes have made it possible to use a phone for alota this. I live ina dead zone
(lets hope the national upgrade to 4G or 5G helps w/this). As such I cant use (didn't learn) to use the phone for such. Also I am
70 y/o and like the full key bd, can txt my 20 somthing da (she like her chorts duz not telephone but textes), use e-mail rather than
iPhone, etc, etc. I use an iPhone for GPS (wayfinding in new places) and last min cancelations (break down on way toa mtg, others
canceling out, etc). My experience is to buy top of the line but used. Lap top prices cont to go down each cycle in which I buy (every
4, 6 yrs?) Right now I notice glitches that are probably telling me to upgrade the hardware (some software strangness) as it's time to get w/the newer software. This guy is stretched out as far as it'll go (12 yrs/5-2 yrs)~

Back in the day we would have called these smart phones 'palm tops' as w/the net they can do some great things. Really portable. But like vehicle choice ya gotta ask the application Q. Do I need a station wagon oran actual pick up (example)? I got the 1st fora DD & parts runner, the 2nd for a motor haul, new shop door, etc. But since the '70s I've been called 'wagonman'. HTH, Good Luck~

Laptop for years. Built in UPS. Both home and work computers are laptops.

But my work laptop is used most of the time with a dock with of the time, only if I am in a meeting room with others. Dual monitors at work and a single 4k at home.

Home laptop is an oldie that gets the job done for me, it can't run a 4k monitor but the external monitor works for me. I let Microsoft put stuff to the cloud for me, I don't have much "secure" stuff but the backup is nice to have.

Yes, and a laptop too (on it now).
I despise mobile anything online. I don't know how anyone does it, it is just so inefficient.

I use my tablet to just play mindless games and check weather and such. Wasted money on that many years ago, no need to update it (it is an iPad Air 2 I bought in 2015 or 2016). Doing anything on a phone is pointless for me, just too small and cumbersome.

Use desktops all day long at work.

Good point about the noise from the fans. My laptop has plenty of resources to run multiple applications on two 24" screens, but man do the fans scream! I don't have that issue at all with my desktop.

Intel NUC (Meerkat from System76)

32Gb/i710K ViewSonic commercial monitor; maybe the last computer of my life.

I also have a 2012 i7 3700 in the back room; very viable machine still. If i were to get a laptop it would be a fully serviceable business grade one; no consumer junk that cannot be repaired for me.

Docked laptop for me often.

Right now at my desk, though, I have my old(2012 15" MBP) semi-permanently docked. It's driving 2x 27" screens(my year old M1 Macbook Pro can't do that) and, more importantly, it has 2x as much RAM as my new Macbook Pro. For photo work, the 16gb RAM in a slower computer vs. 8gb in a really fast computer actually makes a HUGE difference in how usable it is for that task.

Right now, I have a 2010 Mac Pro tower sitting here that's not in use that's going to find its way to my desktop and running at least 2 27" displays(2560x1440 minimum, although I can go higher if I so desire with the right graphics card). I'm tempted to use that one, and it does have 32gb RAM. With that said, I need to get an SSD in it(I have a 128gb PCIe drive pulled from my wife's Macbook Air I could use) and more importantly am hoping GPUs come down to something reasonable so that I can toss a macOS Mojave compatible GPU in it. I may upgrade the CPUs in it-haven't decided.

I'm hoping also to get my 2012 Macbook Pro sometime soon also. It's dual hex-core 3.46ghz CPUs and has 96gb RAM plus boots off a PCIe SSD. Since I set it up for legacy compatibility, though, it has a sort of dated GPU that will let me run OS X 10.6.8 but nothing newer than 10.13. I don't know if I want to upgrade that one or not. I could also toss a faster NVMe SSD in it, although that's also incompatible with OS X 10.6.8(the AHCI PCIe SSDs I have work fine).

BTW, whether I'm using a docked laptop or a proper desktop, I have a Unicomp Spacesaver M on my desk.

I have a home office with a 27" iMac that the 14-year-old uses for homework and I tend to use it for bills/tax prep/anything that is easier because it has a 27" screen or if I need a place more secluded and quiet. I'm sitting here in the TV room next to the office watching TV and typing this on a 13" Macbook Pro on my lap. This is my BS surf the web computer and answer emails or FB but the small screen means the iMac is better suited for some things. At work, I have a Mac Mini running Parallels and Windows 11 because my practice management software is windows only. I use my phone primarily in bed to watch Tiktok or check email or if I'm out and about.

At the end of the day I probably still spend 70% of my time on a desktop.
